A lot of people will stick their head in the sand, me included because it’s usually an over talked narrative.

But is it time to take a closer look at Drew? Even when we were destroying teams we never really went deep a lot or took a lot of shots across the middle. Is that by design, taking what the defense gives us or is it because Payton is tailoring the game plan because he knows Drew just doesn’t have it in his arm anymore?

Defenses are stacking the box, playing physical coverage, blitzing more and overall playing underneath more. Last year it seemed like every other game we’d take a deep shot and we’d get one, at least attempt it. But I can’t even remember a time this year. Did the weird tackle in the Atlanta game mess up Drew’s arm? Or is this just the season wearing on his arm and he just can’t put the zip on the ball that he did earlier in the year?

This is likely an overreaction but there’s a problem and there’s got to be an answer somewhere. Drew falling off was bound to happen eventually.

He made some pretty accurate throws downfield today. Receivers kept dropping them

In a way, I can agree.

Brees has lost velocity because he is turning 39 soon.

But he also has such a great command of the game-- with the right players right now too-- to win. And to a man, they look to him as their leader.

He doesn't need to throw for 300 yards a game anymore. That recipe didn't work for a few seasons anyway.

We are very strong at many positions.

Drew just needs to be Drew.

This is a team game. That's how we are winning. As a team.

How many plays killed drives that had a defender with his back to Brees, the entire time the receiver ran his route, and made contact without ever looking at the qb? I counted at least 2.

What makes it worse is they were both perfectly thrown.

Did you see him watch the replay on the jumboscreen?

The expression on his face said it all.

His upside is absolutely diminishing because of his arm strength. It's not so much about how far he can throw down the field, so much as how fast he can get the ball to receivers. That play where Quan had a ball knocked out of his hands last week, it was an accurate pass ~25 yards down field, but it was slow to get to him.

But he's still an elite QB that can make most any pass he needs to make to win games. He can still drop a ball over the shoulder of a WR running a go route 45 yards down field. He was fine tonight, his playmakers let him down. I need to watch the 2pt conversion again, but it sounded like Kamara stopped running a route. His INT was in no way his fault (great pass that only Arnold could catch, excpet that Arnold derped it hard enough for a defender to pick it off).

Even including Thomas, it's looking like this team has a bottom ~7 WR/TE corps. I think Meredith will come back and be really good for us next season. Quan will have a year of experience. We need a TE pretty badly, though, and I'd still invest FA money in another WR.

He really did make some pinpoint throws that just weren't brought in.

Usually he bounces back after this type of criticism from fans.

We need Dez to come back and might even need to spend our lone 2nd round pick on a TE or WR.

The only other areas of concern on the team are depth at LB because we will likely lose Robertson and Teo. The rest of our team will remain intact though. WR/TE needs to be added through the draft

To me we have gotten away from letting the offense set the tone with 1st down runs by Ingram. I know Kamara scored the TD, but he is getting too many straight handoffs.

Kamara needs to be moving more without the ball and getting it out of the backfield and then work in the occasional carry. He is a special talent, but he is also effective in drawing attention away from others.

When he is the lead back the deception is gone and the defense can key on the running back.

Dallas set a blueprint of mugging WRs.

The offensive line is banged up.

And now the WRs have the dropsies.

It does not help that every big offensive play got flagged against the Panthers.

Key offensive players were repeatedly hit late and out of bounds.

Forcing the ball downfield under these conditions are a recipe for disaster.

You can not let the game officials frustrate the QB into making poor decisions.

You take what the opponents defense and refs are allowing.

Good defense and the running game is the answer.

Brees has his ego in his back pocket and just wants to win.

No need being a gunslinger until absolutely necessary.

The Dome home crowd should help with the very tight WR muggings.

A healthier pass protecting OL should restore some of the passing firepower.

To me it’s not about the accuracy. His ball is a little slow. It’s the difference between receivers being able to catch the ball uncontested/in more space, vs being able to catch it with a half second or a second less before they receive contact from a defender. I think that is making all the difference in the world with their drops. Not that any of that is Drew’s fault, they should still catch it. Also if they got more separation, it wouldn’t be an issue. Basically the lack of velocity is making it difficult for drew to compensate for his receivers weaknesses

Yes. Drew Brees's arm is the whole issue.

Oh, and the opposing defense. Almost forgot that.

So I take back my agreement with your OP. It's the defense. HIS ARM IS NEAR PERFECTION. Final answer. I love Brees's arm and that brown thing on his face is cool too.

Sweet Jesus.......... Brees was dropping dimes last night. His arm strength isn’t an issue at all. His whole career has been about timing and accuracy. He throws the ball where it needs to be 97% of the time. He has young WRs that are cutting off routes, not getting deep enough or wide enough or shallow enough. Payton said on one of his radio interviews a few weeks back that the WRs have been out of position so much this year because it’s been a constant revolving door and some of these young guys are still learning calls in the huddle. He will not simplify the calls. He flat out said that. The importance is having a #2 WR and a legit TE threat in this offense can’t be overstated.

It's not his are hes hesitates because he dosent trust any reciever outside MT13
Lewis,smith are trash
Kirkwood, Arnold is a average
Watson is inconsistent

He holds the ball trying to get the ball to MT13 the check down to Kamara that's not super hard to defend.

I don't think so. I think his lack of trust with these young receivers and tight ends is really forcing his hand. He's having to try and get it to his sure hand players in Thomas and Kamara just to make sure the ball isn't dropped or picked off. We need a legit 2. We need Ginn back.

We really gonna do this shite again? Every time our offense struggles the last few years, it was because Brees had some mysterious injury that was never really there.

His arm is fine. Take your own advice. Overreaction. It’s by design. We have no one to get deep

I swear the shite people blame the offense on when it’s bad is so ridiculous.

Yeah I’m not banking on a guy who wasn’t playing and already losing a step to be a massive contributor AFTER an Achilles.
