Is anyone concerned about Browner's long history with drugs/suspensions?

Real question.
* Browner tested positive for marijuana as a rookie in 2005
* His second offense was in the form of missed drug tests when he was playing in Canada from 2007-10. This is bizarre but somehow he was still subject to NFL testing and was not going to his tests.
* He was suspended 4 games in 2012 for violating the substance abuse policy.
* He was suspended for the super bowl in 2013 (season) and first four games of 2014 for violating the policy (which was later amended to state he missed his drug tests instead of failing).
Some of his quotes over the years are interesting as well. ("If they said, `Look, we think you have a serious problem and are so worried about you, we're going to send you to counseling sessions or Betty Ford or whatever.' Then you say `OK, you can test me. You're trying to help me,'"). Ive read several others where he says the league should "help" the players, etc. We can form our own opinions on that I guess.
He looked good imo with the Pats but they let him go because of a $2 million roster bonus? I like his size and skills of course, but you'd be dumb not to be a little concerned.

I'll take Browner, his dealer, his herp needles and whatever he wants to bring with him over a White/Robinson/SJB everyday and twice on sundays

yes there's concern, but not at the price we got him at. he was signed at a pretty reasonable contract, one that would make absorbing any suspension a bit easier.

It will always be a concern. But honestly i think those days are behind him. He passed all the tests last year.
But that could be because Roger was too busy sucking Krafts dick halfway down his throat

Drugs used to be an issue, but luckily he won't be exposed to that kind of environment in NOLA.

We had Robinson White, Dixon, and Frederick as our #2 starting CB last season. Even if he had a 4 game suspension already for the 2015 season, I wouldn't think twice. We desperately needed someone there.
That said I don't think his "issues" should go completely ignored, but I still think he will be a fantastic player for us.

I agree with MDS.
Concerns and a good cap friendly deal.
I'm not as thrilled with his coverage skills as some but its his attitude and style of play that I think they want the other young CB's to learn from.
Can't have too many good CB's. Would not surprise me if they
still took Trae at 13th.

Me either. I wouldn't be surprised at anything at this point
We could make a move and get Evan Mathis to replace Grubbs and then draft an offensive lineman later. We usually do that anyway

this! I think he has been very overrated on these boards. I am glad we signed him, but he will need some safety help when he plays. He will be a solid CB, not a spectacular one. That's fine by me. If we can still get Williams-GB then we have a solid secondary that we can all feel comfortable with.

I think this is certainly in play. Old guys are here to allow the transition to the younger players.

Browner will be great at the short/intermediate passing routes. If he just plays underneath coverage, he'll always be near the ball. Sure, he's not fast, but we don't really need him to be.
Just use your size and pick balls thrown at or destroy WRs who dare catch nearby.

His 2012 suspension was for prescription drugs. The 2013-2014 suspension was for the tests he missed while playing in Canada. I wouldn't call it a long history. In 10 years he failed 1 test for weed and another for prescription drugs that I believe fell under the PED stuff. The prescription drug was Adderall, which Sherman also tested positive for.

This is why I don't think the Saints are done at CB.

I am sure that there is an exit clause in the contract for us to cut him and he forfeit any prorated bonus if he fails to abide by the personal conduct policy. He'll be fine.

I'm more concerned with his coverage ability.
