In Depth Discussion on Braylon Broughton as well as Greg Romeus in the 3-4 D

Is it with 100% certainty that these players will be projected as OLB's in the 3-4 and if so, that provides us with some legitimate depth with Galette, Tez, Chamberlain, and austin johnson.

I certainly wouldn't call it legitimate depth as we haven't seen Greg at all(and after his injuries he may be done) and Broughton looks the part but hasn't proven it yet.

But yeah they are smaller guys I think would fit OLB better than DE in a 3-4.

Do they fit the Kruger mold?

re: In Depth Discussion on Braylon Broughton as well as Greg Romeus in the 3-4 D
By smaller I meant compared to the normal 3-4 ends. I think they are both around 260 which is fine for a situational end in a 4-3 but a bit too light for a 3-4 end. They would both be a good size for a 3-4 OLB.

I have hope Broughton can play a role, but between him, Galette, and Wilson I'm not sure we have someone solid enough in coverage at OLB in a 3-4. You don't rush both OLBs every down.

I'm thinking Hawthorne may be a good candidate to play some OLB as well as ILB.

Seriously, one of my dream wishes is that Greg Romeus comes out of nowhere and goes all Bruce Smith on the league.

(I can dream, can't I?)

For all our luck over the SP era in getting cheap offensive stars out of nowhere, I hope our luck can change with our defensive additions. I don't care if its Romeus or Broughton or Hicks or some other scrub we pick up. Just need a surprise gem on defense to dominate in the worst way.

Well not really. I said dominate. But if Junior goes all Demarcus Ware for Rob Ryan, I'm all for it.

I think Junior is plan A for this Defense. We need a Plan B and C to start making hay for the cattle.

He could be plan A if they are planning on passing up a pass rusher in the draft, but I'm pretty sure he is a solid plan B.

I thought Greg was like 260-270 lbs? Seems a little big for an olb with knee issues but I may be mistaken about his weight

I disagree. I think Kruger was plan A and Galette plan B. Anyone from the draft may take some developmental time. It's a big jump from college to the pros and some players can't adjust. Junior has at least adjusted to the pros.

Some OLBs in the 3-4 are around that size. That's actually the "tweener" range everyone talks about. A bit light for a 4-3 end and a bit heavy for a 4-3 OLB, but a good size for a 3-4 OLB.
