Really deep analysis from one who knows the team's personell up and down from strength to weakness....one who has studied game tape of all the players and realized that it does not matter .. take defense... even if the best player available is offense...even if the defense of player is a bust....take defense... no matter what defense defense defense

Not a good mindset to have. Draft the players that will help you WIN. We are more likely to win with an all-world offense (no it hasn't been all-world since 2011) than we are to draft a defensive player at 11 that turns us into a top 5 defense. And right now, it's looking like the BPA at 11 will be an offensive player. Plenty of pass rushers and corners will be available at 32 and 42 that can have an immediate impact.

What if the first 2 picks are special teams picks? And not K or P

Then what?

One of the top 3 picks is very likely going to be offense to replace the Cooks production and/or spell Ingram. McCaffery almost fits both.

Honestly what's the difference if we go offense at 32 but def at 42? You're getting the same caliber of player

Agree in principle. However, Barnett at 11 does not thrill me. Neither does Charlton. I would definitely make the trade for Butler for the 32 pick. But would not pass up Fournette @ 11 if he slides. Don't know enough about Davis to opine, but if he's a dynamic receiver I could see taking him ahead of Barnett. Maybe trading back and getting extra picks is the way to go.

I want them to pick BPA, regardless of offense or defense.

I actually would take Christian McCaffery, Mike Williams or OJ Howard at 11. Garrett, Adams, Hooker, Lattimore, Allen and Thomas will all be gone and I really don't want to settle for someone like Taco Charlton or Marlon Humphrey there. Haason Reddick would be the only defensive player I'd be cool with taking at 11, short of one of the big names falling.

McCaffrey and Howard gives us a mismatch option on this team we haven't had since graham/sproles

Wouldn't love it, but it definitely fits a need on the list.

Then the team better find a way to dial up a consistent pass rush and upgrade the defensive secondary because we are going no where again with the defensive product we have in place now. Our pass defense was so bad it would take an act of God to put us where we need to be competitive without major upgrades in at least 2 key defensive positions.

All you "Really deep " experts out there need to get Real , This team could used 5 Draft picks on Defense and I would be Thrilled !! just don't want 2 of the first 3 used on the Offensive side of the ball.

If LF7 gos to the Jags, Carolina will take CMAC. He wont be there at 11. Panthers WR coach was the RB coach at Stanford from 2014-2016.

BPA or trade down, the best player at 11 will most likely be OFENSE. DRAFT IS DEEPER ON D and too heavy on O. You'll be the same one cheering CM when he's HOUSE ing TDs in the dome every Sunday

It doesn't work that way....

Every team goes into the draft with a chart for need and a chart for player ranking. So the Saints know their most pressing need is DE followed by CB.

They also have the players rated on their board 1-50. The Saints have pick #11. Now they may have a DE they like and he might be available at #11, but if they get to #11 and one of there Top picks is available then there is a good chance that they would take him. So say they think they have no shot at Adams, Allen, Williams or Hooker were sitting there at #11 the Saints would have to pull the trigger. Same at #32 if they were to look up and see Howard, Mahomes, Humphrey or White available they would have to take them.

I think we have lots of talent on defense; sadly, we don't have the coaches to develop them or put them in the right position to succeed. We let go of players like Malcolm Jenkins and Akiem Hicks for pennys; we let go of Jimmy Grahm, Kenny Stills and Brandin Cooks and all we got back so far is Stephone Anthony, Ellerbre (injury prone), and another 32nd overall pick; while basically making New England invincible. The front office is horrible. When you draft for need, you tend to reach for prospects based on the position that they play; its always better to draft for best player available no matter the position. One player can change a franchise.

We've traded Graham and Cooks to try and help improve the defense, and have drafted heavy defense for the majority of the Payton era.

It's obvious they know the issue

I'm shooting for us drafting good players that are on the team for the next four years. Now that would be something.
