Hoyer may start, but that will be an open competition. Cassel same thing. I think that we will see at most 5 qb starting this year not drafted in first three rounds, but realistically it will most likely be 3 with Hoyer and Cassel seeing some starts due to uncertainty with their competition.

It goes to my point though; it is extremely rare to find a starting qb much less a franchise one after round 3. This is why I am not in the "draft later in the rounds to groom" camp. That's a theory that works only in theory.

The teams that may be starting Cassell and Hoyer wish they weren't. They are placeholders at best and will be replaced at first chance.

Mett only started as much as he did because of injuries. He was 0-6 and went three and out on something like 49% of his drives. Not sure he sticks as anything more than a backup.

The only QB's that you would actually want on your team drafted later than the 3rd are Romo and Brady.

Hoyer isn't very good but Mallet is even worse, he's going to win that job. Follow the money, both him and Mallet just signed new contracts with the Texans and Hoyer is making like 2-3 million more a year, that tells you who they expect to be their starter well unless they are drafting a QB.

As for Cassel if he were younger he'd easily beat out Manuel in a QB competition. Manuel is going to get ever opportunity to show improvement because he young, a high draft pick and they need to know if he can play, but Cassel is the better QB. He's started over 70 games in the NFL, he's just at the twilight of his career so they want Manuel to be the guy, not Cassel.

You also have a guy like Cousins (4th Round Pick) that will be starting next season for Washington because you know RG3 at some point in the season will be hurt or just won't be very good.

It's extremely difficult to find a franchise QB in any round. You see alot of 1st & 2nd Round QB's that aren't very good, but they get more leeway, more starts, more time to develop, because they were drafted so high and are getting paid so much.

3rd Round is the round to draft a QB if you don't need to rely on him right away. He's not getting paid 1st round money so you don't have the pressure to start him, and if he doesn't pan out you didn't waste a first or second rounder on him, and he didn't cost you a great deal.

I don't disagree with this. If teams don't overreach for Petty, I would be down with using one of our 3rd's for him. He is a project player with the tools you want. Problem is someone will use a late first/early second on him

Being that he's third string behind McCown I would say he could climb all the way to UDFA in this years draft.
