I doubt a trade happens any earlier than right before the draft now

There's no point in anyone rushing with so many different possibilities still. I just hope we stick to the best offer regardless.

We need the trade to happen sooner to get the extension signed. Would hate to backload the contract too much.

I think the holdup at this point, assuming the deal is pick #32 and butler for cooks, is both teams are awaiting on butler to commit to terms on a new deal with us or say no, I think the whole deal hinges on that alone at this point

dont wanna sign cooks long term but we will sign an undersized undrafted CB with no speed.. sigh. pick 32 better land us a gem this time but knowing the saints we will draft another bust like Anthony.

Pretty hard to re-sign a guy who does not want to be here. Not sure how the Saints are being blamed on that one.

The Saints don't want to pay him what hes worth which is why he doesn't want to be here.

This. I think if Butler doesn't want it then we decline and agree with the Titans deal for the 18th pick.

that has nothing to do with it, he isn't happy and wants to be the only center of attention on offense.

plus its a matter of being able to "afford" his contract next year. he will likely be demanding $12-$15 million a year and then they have to find that money somewhere.

remember jimmy graham? they let several key players so the could find the money to pay jimmy and then he still wasn't happy and was "mailing it in" instead of earning his money so they had to trade him and eat his HUGE contract money

its like DeJaVoux all over again with this cooks situation and at least they seem to have learned their lesson after the jimmy graham thing and want to get out ahead of this.

Lol

He's got 2 years left on the deal and were not even close to that discussion.

And you think Malcolm Butler won't demand that kind of money?

Cooks has a team option. It should be just under $9 million....

You mean the same offseason we signed Jarius Byrd and later Junior?

You nailed it again

Where is anyone of this coming from.

The rumors flying around are ridiculous.

Show me where Cooks said he wants to be paid and where the Saints said they wouldn't.

And where did he say he wanted to be the center of attention?

He made one post about needing to become a business man and people take that to mean so many things it doesn't.

It could just as easily meant he knows he needs to grow up and just do his job as much as it could have meant he was unhappy with no targets for one game.

It was one comment and suddenly he's a problem child that only wants money and can't share the ball.

maybe a little less, maybe a little more, but having a really good CB is more beneficial to us then not having cooks here would hurt us.

we have other receivers that can make cooks absence not as big of a deal but we are is desperate need for a true shut down CB

not disputing it might be a break even thing as far as money, and not saying it wouldn't be good to keep cooks, but we definitely come out ahead having bultler vs still having cooks
