I work in New York and I keep hearing from Giants fans about how bad the bounty situation is and how we deserve this punishment. These fans dont see the dangerous precedent that Goodell is setting here. He is basically fining a coach $8 million and punishing a team for playing hard and doing what people love about the NFL. Don't they understand that if you let this happen to the Saints, then whose to say that Goodell won't arbitrarily lay the wood on your favorite team? Don't be stupid and say "my team would never do this!". Truth is, your team already does this. Don't be a disingenuous sanctimonious ignorant dick!

Ray Ratto has an article up at CBS Sportsline which is a tangent based off of this.

His contention was more along the lines of "Goodell has now pissed off at least three owners between Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder, and Tom Benson. Commissioners taking on owners doesn't end well in the long-run."

Ask Fay Vincent how that works out.

Totally agree. A slippery slope he has gone down. The pussification of the NFL continues.

True. What about the other places GW coached. Could they be facing punishment? Or even other coaches and GM that were over GW on other teams. The Saints were not the 1st team with the bounty system.

No, I think he's fining a coach, asst. coach, GM, etc. for instituing a system to reward causing injury AND not stopping/covering it up when the league found out about it. Yes, bounty systems were/are league wide. But flat out giving the league a big F-You when they tell you to stop doing it will get you in a shitload of trouble.

There is no fine.

There is loss of compensation, which Payton risked by lying to the NFL. Its not like the NFL is taking that money, it stays with Benson. Hell, if Benson wants, he can give Payton a 7 million dollar bonus after Payton retires.

Now I have to walk around for the next year and hear about this from everyone I meet. They will all make the same stupid fricking jokes and will think that they are the first to say them to me. I have one "friend" that is a 49ers fan and every time I see him he wants to show me the Pierre Thomas knockout hit on his iPhone like its the first time I have seen it. Fans of other teams can be such fricking douche bags.

Why not stop trolling Saints talk for 1 day? Just stay to the MSB, it's not like enough saints aren't on that board for you to argue with tol

So you agree that this was personal and capricious?

That's why I said "basically". Can you at least agree that the effect is the same?

Another ignorant fool with the old "everyone else is doing it BS". Are you in elementary school? The Saints were and are the only team doing something this stupid. They got what they deserved and more. We had a party to watch the NFC championship game. Every person there said it looks like the Saints are trying to injure Favre. Enjoy your fall into oblivion like you were in the 80's and 90's.

Like they say, "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time."

If my team, the Vikings, ever do something so stupid, I hope they get the bam hammer.

How are you sure of this?

This is the only game you have ever watched where one team deliberately tried to hit the other quarterback? Come on.

Well then they should be banished to Mars for drafting Christian Ponder 7th.
