How many years does Marques Colston have left?

Probably my favorite Saint ever. Love his production and the way he carries himself on and off the field. Probably a Sainy for life. Just wondering how much longer y'all think well have him.

I'm thinking he'll probably have 1-2 DECENT seasons and then 1 more not very good season after that.. then retire.

2 maybe 3 seasons. We'll have to put him to sleep soon after.

If we win the title in the next two-three years I see him retiring. Otherwise I think he'll play as long as Drew does. A lot of people think he's close to being done but I think he can be a reliable possession guys for quite a few more years.

His size + hands + chemistry with drew + ability to beat mismatch coverage and find spots in zone = play as long as he can restructure his contract
Even tho he's older he can be a solid 3rd/4th WR until he's almost 40 just based on his body type. But in terms of starting material he prolly has 2/3 more at his current salary

A few if he stays healthy. Which he is, going into this season.
But this will be his last year as a Saint. Hope it's a good one. Big Smooooooth!

Because of his salary?
I'm sure the team will ask him to take a cut after this season.

I don't think that's an unreasonable view, though. He's got 1-2 years left with us I think.

I don't either. I wouldn't be surprised if the FO wanted a $2M to $3M reduction after the season. I think he's due about $7M salary and a $9.7M cap hit next year.

Colston is wearing down, but he also has the heart of a champion. I wouldn't bet against him sticking around more than one more year.

Correct.
What's he owed next year? 9 MM?
It would have to be an enormous paycut.

Depends on if he takes a pay cut. I think he'll have 5 more years in the league and 3 high caliber ones (800+ yards)

If he'll take a $2M cut, that would work. He has $6.9M salary, If he's cut, that creates $5M in dead money. If he plays for the $5M, it's the best we can do.

I agree with the guy that said as long as he's willing to restructure.
Technically he has 2 years left and technically we can do some other creative things to get under the cap without even touching him next year. A lot of that will depend on what he does this year though.
Despite everyone saying he had a "down" year, he had a pretty damn good year for a WR. He went through a bad stretch where his foot was really bothering him, sat out a game, and came back really strong.
He was 27th in receiving yards(943) and 28th in receptions(75) with all positions included despite missing a game and dealing with injuries. And this was with Graham having a very good year and eating into his targets(86 receptions on 144 targets), on top of PT having a career year in receptions(77) AND Sproles getting a ton also(71).
Receivers aren't like HBs. They don't suddenly decline when hitting 30(it's actually after they turn 28 for HBs). They actually have a chart that shows WRs in their 30s(at certain points) do just as good or better than many of their years in their 20s.

So I can see Colston getting an extension next year, much like Roddy White got this year(who is 33 by the way), that will lower his cap hit and keep him here until he retires.
Realistically, if he isn't cut next year I see him playing another 4-5 years with us(this year included) and hanging it up.
I think he keeps up his production for another 2-3 years(this year included) but at a slightly declining rate(like in the 60s for catches and 800s for yards which is still damn good, espcially for a 3rd-4th option). And that's not because he can't do it. That's because we have Graham, Stills, and Cooks to feed also(plus any other young blood that we sign or that steps up).

Most will disagree, but I think he could go another 5 years if he wanted if he stays injury free. He was never a speed guy so that's not a factor. His game is smarts, body positioning, toughness in the middle and good hands.

Exactly, only issue is, he never had speed to begin with so the decline in speed means it is worse.
We needed more weapons around and with Cooks and seemingly Toon, we may have a good enough WR group that he might not be here much longer though.
