This was discussed at the end of the 2008 season a bit on here. With the biggest of all big games approaching, I wanted to revisit this topic.

I think we can all agree he wasn't particuarly sharp last week against Minnesota (altough he didn't turn the ball over at all). I'd say he was ok against Arizona. He missed a few shots down field, but he certainly didn't have a bad game either.

He played well against New England and the Giants this year. But both of those teams ultimately turned out to be mediocre. He was pretty clutch against Miami but Miami wasn't exactly a great team either.

The only time I remember him making a clutch play in either the 2007 or 2008 seasons was the touchdown he threw to Colston against Chicago in 08. Otherwise, most of his numbers came in blowouts against average or below average opponents (See the Green Bay Monday Night game in 08).

In 2006 when we beat Philly in the divisional round, that was really Deuce's show. And in my opinion, he was crap in the 2nd half against Chicago in the NFCCG.

Convince me I'm wrong.

He's got 6 TD's 0 picks in the playoffs this year with some off-the-chart QB rating and is in the Superbowl. You're wrong.

But let's breakdown those numbers. Two of the touchdowns were screen passes to Pierre Thomas. Another was an underthrown flea flicker to Henderson where Henderson made a reat adjustment to the ball.

He also missed a few balls down the field in both playoff games so far.
I'm not saying he played poorly so far in the playoffs, I just want to see him play great against a really good team.

This.

Also Peyton is only 9-8 in playoff games, just saying.

if you couldnt see he was a little off target accuracy wise against the vikes, i dont know what to tell you.

He missed on quite a few passes where he's been on target all season.

Exactly. He hasn't been nearly as sharp in the playoffs as he was during the regualr season. Of course, his "average" is still much better than we've seen in this city in a long time.

He was essentially perfect in the game against New England. You have to remember that was one of the biggest regular season games in Saints history. The Pats came into that game with a highly ranked defense and got shredded. Although the team was poor overall, he was extremely clutch against the Redskins (and they had a pretty good defense). His supposed "off game" against Minnesota resulted in 3 td's and 0 interceptions and he could've easily racked up more #'s against Arizona if not for the huge lead. His QB rating is higher than Manning's for the playoffs; and the games don't get any bigger than the last two (aside from the obvious SB that has yet to be played). He's had 6 td's and no interceptions in those games; I'm not sure what else you need to see from him. I see no reason to believe that he won't do quite well against the Colts.

The Saints averaged 9.5 yards a play against the Patriots.

You define this as playing "well"? To most people who follow the game, that kind of play is off the charts.

Does the Dallas game this year count as a big game? He was off in that one. But he was great against the Giants and Pats. He was off against the Vikings, but played well against the Cards. So, you never know.

C'mon man. Those stats don't tell the whole story and you know it (unless you didn't actually watch the games). Again, nobody is saying he's been bad. His ball security has been great in the playoffs and that is huge when you consider how slim the margin for error is when two good teams are playing. He just hasn't been as sharp as he's been. For Christ's sake, Troy Aikman speculated that he was injured against Minnesota given how poorly he was throwing the ball at the time.

True. Although in fairness, he was running for his life for a lot of the time.

So, we're supposed to convince you that your opinion of Drew Brees is wrong? Alright good deal. So your opinion of Drew Brees in a big game is that he hasn't been playing very well in big games, correct?

*anxiously awaits synaptic reply*

My first experience watching Drew Brees was in the Alamo Bowl against a #3 ranked Kansas State team as an 18 year old.

That Kid willed his team to victory against a top notch team. Literally refused to lose that game as a True Freshmen and competed to the end. Never looked overwhelmed.

The Man has helped turn around the attitude of the Saints Organization (and the whole region for that matter) with his Leadership on and off the field.

6 TD's in two playoff games this year. 0 Interceptions. STATS. FACT.

Obviously Brees has to be sharp in this game for us to win but nothing makes me think he won't be. This game could be won/lost on many fronts. QB for us is one I'm not worried about.
