Man to man was his strength and now he gets torched. He added extra weight and regressed.

Guy is terrible in coverage, looks nothing like when he was a rook. Once they get a full season of that saints coaching they always get worse

A good defensive team would make Vaccaro a pro bowler, here he's garbage. Look at Jenkins and Harper it's the coaches.

Hard to blame the players

He was actually one of the few players on the defense who graded in the green according to PFF. He's not the problem in the defense.

He's good as a nickel, he's a bad traditional SS, and that is one of 3 reasons why Byrd has not lived up to his expectations.

They fully expected Vaccaro to play the traditional SS role, which he did 2nd year and played horribly. Moved him back closer to the LOS in year 3 and he went back to surefire tackling

No defensive back is going to be stellar until we get a damn pass rush. We could have the Legion of Boom back there and it wouldn't matter with our front seven. Stephone Anthony and Kikaha are raw but nice additions to Cameron Jordan but that's really about it. Delvin Breaux had some great showings but I honestly just think QB's were too busy picking on Browner all season long. Get a pass rush and the secondary will come along.

All the things you said aren't true, so I'm going to RA.

Not intending to hijack thread but the way people talk about kikaha on here, do you guys think that kikaha will be anything more than a pass rushing role player who has to be protected by play call. He didn't really show me that he could be more. He's just super good and super motivated at that one thing. When he got ran at, he got rolled over like a luau pig.

Don't get me wrong, the guy is a keeper and but I think people are expecting too much, he just isn't big enough. Hustle can only make up for so much.

Vacarro is very overrated.

Check his stat line for ints, tfl, etc.

He disappears during games.

I was impressed his rookie year, then I'm not sure what happened.

He's a FA next year right? I'd be pissed if we paid him to come back. Hell, I say trade him for anything before he's a FA.

(I said same thing about him last year)

He's not an impact player. Doesn't matter how you want to slice it.

Jenkins and Harper leaving was a big issue I believe. They knew the system and having them back there allowed us to let Vaccaro play in the box while they handled the back end. Then they left and it was up to newcomer Byrd and Vaccaro and they simply weren't ready. Well that, and again the lack of a consistent pass rush which still to this day, I have no fricking clue why Bill Johnson still has a job.

Mostly this.

And Vaccaro can cover better than Harper.

Not suggesting yet but seeing how Mark Barron turned into a success at LB after leaving safety could be a continuing trend in the NFL. Out of all the weaknesses on this defense the LB pass coverage might be the worst. I wouldn't be disappointed if they tried focusing Vaccaro even more in the box.

The guy isn't a good safety.

He plays great in the slot, or basically at LB. But he can't play a deep zone for shite. He can't handle the angles. That's why his 2014 was so bad. Cover 2 isn't an option w/ Byrd and KV.

Yup. Let him be a coverage LB'er when he can be subbed for such.

You just jinxed us.

...Vonn Bell, safety from Ohio State"
