How come the Saints didn't pursue Peyton Manning?

I know the team has been busy with the Bountygate stuff, but it's a shame we didn't make any kind of push for Peyton. This is the second time we've missed out on a premier QB to pair with Brees. Back in 2008, we made no push for Favre when he was traded to the Jets.
It would have been a great story of Manning coming home to end his career and the Saints showing trust in QB's who were coming off career threatening injuries. Just imagine how awesome would a dual shotgun with Brees and Manning have been. I can forgive Bountygate but not this!

We have firsthand knowledge of what happens when you have two elite QBs, see LSU's QB fiasco the last couple years. When you have two that are elite, you really don't have any at all.
