Was this not the exact type of tackle they were encouraging a few years ago because it resulted in fewer injuries? The Rugby style tackle?

As dumb as this is, there is some hope here.

If this means we won't see an increase of flags due to how difficult it will be to determine if it was a true hip drop tackle; while I will hate it, it at least won't impact the game.

Yeah may not impact other teams but I can almost promise you that this will somehow cost the Saints a game.

A big problem is It will be highly subjective and inconsistent. Hell, they didn’t call a blatant PI on the Rams that one time…

How are you supposed to tackle a guy from behind running full speed anyway?

Push him forward and hope for the best? Also have to hope he doesn't break his elbow in the fall or else that gets banned too

They keep tweaking the game here and there all the while while there's a collective bargaining agreement and you can't hit and tackle as much at practice.

This will allow the NFL to better script their games.

If you tackle from behind and your feet go up into the air is that going to draw a flag? Or you land on his legs is that going to draw a flag? If I am a QB say Mahomy I think I would go soccer guy on ever tackle and grab my ankles in pain
Is this next?

This makes it easier for officials to dictate outcome of games.

Part of the plan.

This is not the rugby style tackle and rugby banned the hip drop already.

So... basically any otherwise normal, safe tackle (according to whatever rules being enforced this week) that accidentally injures a star player?

Just make it flag football at this point. The game is completely unrecognizable anymore.

Explain the rugby-style tackle to me. Is it similar? I really thought this was what I remember being told it was.

Makes it much easier to control the outcome.
