Irrelevant if they're in a title window

Then it's ok to overspend and burden your future cap

That's always been logical

They did beat the Chiefs last year and they damn sure should have won the nfc title being up 30 in the 1st half. They are contenders, stop being a hater.

Vegas agrees btw. Lions have 4th best odds to win it all.

Last season passer rating...
Goff 97.9
Carr 97.7

Russell Wilson - 98

Any schlub can dunk their way to a nice passer rating. You have a nice comp% and low int checking down constantly. 44% of Carr’s TDs came in games decided in two TDs or more.

There is too much nuance at the QB position to use such a simple stat

Goff was top 10 in TD%, Y/A, AY/A, low INT and Sack % on the 2nd most pass attempts in the league. Volume passing, downfield attack, protecting the football. 2nd in the league in Red Zone TD%.

16 of Goff's 30 tds were in games decided by 2 scores. 5 of his 30 were in a blow out win over Denver.

We had the easiest schedule in the league last year. We still didn’t really win games until DA and Carr looked up and noticed that they were both going to be canned if they didn’t go complete try hard mode in the last 4 meaningless games of the season against shitty teams.

I’m not even a true Carr hater tbh. I defended him at times during the season and attempted to shift blame to the o line and even Olave (before it became trendy to do so). But it is funny to see many posters trying to talk themselves into Carr being a good QB. He really isn’t. He’s a mediocre QB that has 10 years of data that shows he can’t win meaningful games. We 100% should’ve tanked the last 4-5 games of the season and attempted to upgrade him with an actual playoff caliber QB/promising rookieInstead, we locked ourselves into another mediocre, meaningless season.

That is that going rate for a Franchise QB.

Statistically? No.

Goff had 800 more yards and 5 more touchdowns. That’s like 3 more games worth of stats for Derek. Not to mention the quality of wins and playoff run Goff had. Goff has proven he can make it deep into the playoffs. Carr has never sniffed a playoff win. But face painters will bring up QBR. Y’all are embarrassing.

And yes paying Goff $50 million per year is stupid but don’t compare him to Derek Carr.

Give me a break. They had 1 good season playing a shitty schedule. The year before the were getting ready to fire Campbell. See it all the time, 1 good season now they have to play a first place schedule and all those ballsy calls that went their way will catch up to them, see the game vs the 9ers. Detroit will not win their division let alone be a title contender

Passer rating and QBR dispute what you say. No offense, but the 2 best metrics to judge qb play seem like a better way to evaluate than your eye test.

This is laughable. If QBR and passer rating meant as much as y’all claim Patrick Mahomes would be dominating the league in it every year instead of Dak fricking Prescott.

Production and wins are the only metrics that actually matter.

Idk if you’re trying to make some comparison to Carr and his contract but Goff is a tier above Carr.

Is Goff better? I’d say so. Is he 15-20 million a year better, frick no lol..

Who is winning the division? They have been having very good to great drafts the last few years. Been drafting alot of players I wanted us to get. They will be a contender for awhile. You are delusional to think otherwise.

26-9 vs TB - 0 TDs (loss)
34-0 vs NE - 2 TDs
28-6 vs CAR - 2 TDs
24-6 vs NYG - 3 TDs
48-17 vs ATL - 4 TDs

19-49 combined record of those teams he beat

Certainly not in contention to win the NFC South

Yes, they have a title window. We are failing to win the worst division in football. That's the difference. It's OK to spend and hurt your future when you have a title window (like the Saints until 2020). It's irrational to do so when you don't (like the Saints the past 3 years and moving forward until we stop)

At some point, the Lions' title window will close and then they'll probably have to eat a lot of dead cap with Goff's contract and will have to eat shite for a year and then rebuild (like we just saw with the Falcons and Bucs in our own division).

If Mahomes got a new deal today, he'd be making a bit more than $53M/year AAV. Probably closer to 60M AAV.

Just wait until Trevor Lawrence gets his new deal. He'll probably be making 52-55M AAV and he hasn't been anywhere near his hype, but that's just the QB market with the cap inflation we see each year.

Carr's salary is fine for the mediocre QB that Carr is, but the problem is the Saints, not Carr. We don't need a market-rate mediocre QB with our terrible cap situation and lack of immediate future.
