So word is that we have no takers for Galette because of his contract (which makes no sense to me as it's a bargain deal) and pending legal issues and possible suspension.

What does that mean?

It means that unless we make several other moves just to clear cap so we can cut him as we lose $750 k doing so instead of saving $10 mil by converting his bonus (HIGHLY unlikely given our cap situation and the fact that converting his bonus was the biggest cap saver we had; that's a $10.75 mil swing in the wrong direction for us), we will likely be stuck with a player we were trying to dump for the next two years (and the third year is very minimal savings if cut).

Now my personal preference was to keep Galette, but this is going to be an awkward situation for us and him.

It's a business, he'll get over it.

If he pouts his way through a contract and gives up, good luck finding another gig.

Weren't the legal issues thrown out?

Does lofton factor in somewhere to get space? Any word on him?

Still have Adolf Goodell to rule on this.

We will be ok, we will either restructure or hopefully can just eat his contract for this year so in future years if he starts sucking we won't have so much dead money, which tends to happen after restructures a lot. He is a good pass rusher, can never have too many of those.

We can't afford to eat $12.5m this year and this only diffence between eating it all this year as opposed to spreading it out is it would maybe make him cuttable next year. We still have to pay $12.5m either way. It's not like base salary restructure where it wasn't guaranteed.

But I did forget the fact that making him a June 1st cut next year would make him cuttable. So I guess we only have to deal with it this year an then see how it goes.

And I sure hope he stays and if he stays I hope we can make it work.

The first set was but the second set, while better for him legal wise, are actually much worse allegations.

As for Lofton he is a separate issue. Seems we are just ready to move on.

We should have kept him all along.

I agree. There aren't exactly a line of pass rushers knocking down our door.

Yup but it seems his legal issues infuriated Payton and they let Nicks go because they were worried about maturity so I can see them not wanting to tie big money up in someone they see the same way as Nicks.

I want him here long term, but the question is if we have to keep him will the Saints change their mind and keep him long term, or will they cut bait next year (saves $5 mil as a June 1st cut next year).

Well, no, they let Nicks go because he was prone to MRSA.

We need to keep him. We have to deal with his shortcomings. He is too good to let go.
