Didn't light up the box score today, but he was throwing some critical blocks today that helped extend drives and create scores.

He might be having the best year of his career.

I'm impressed with his grit so far.

Always thought he got a bum rap but he's caught a couple crucial passes over the middle to extend drives in the two wins that are worth a shout out

He has been solid so far this season. I think the extra work in preseason really helped him.

Tight hips

Seriously, he reminds me of Hoby Brenner.

Weird physiology.

I'm happy he's a Saint.

As bad as he was last year, he's already made up for it. I'm impressed and he/Brees finally seem to have that connection now.

He does look like a better player and seems to be showing a better understanding of the playbook;his role; and because of this is on the same page now with Drew.

I was the main one saying Fleener wasn't crap last year (it was actually a pretty good year for a TE but we've been spoiled here), but he is on track for fewer catches and yards this year than last year. Not knocking him as I think he's still doing well, but anyone praising him now but was cursing him last year is misguided.

Those couple of early drops on top of people freaking about his contract really tainted everyone against him last year. He had turned it around last year (and only finished with 2 recorded drops and 3 knockouts) after those early drops.

That said he does seem to be blocking better so far this year, and that is important.

Edit:
50 catches, 631 yards, 12.6 ypc, 3 tds, 12 20+ yard catches, and 1 40+ yard catch last year.

11 catches, 129 yards, 11.7 ypc, 2 tds, 3 20+ yards catches, and 0 40+ yard catches through a quarter of this year.

Hopefully the TD pace stays ahead of last year. That will be the biggest difference.

He's blocking alot more, but he's not asked to be a primary option receiving. He'll get his, he's gonna make the most of it thats all we need.

Per PFF: 78.7 rating as well, 8th overall among TE's

He's maximizing opportunities this year. Didn't do that much of last year

No drops so far this year with some tough catches

Yep. He's catching the ball in traffic this year(he was damn good against the Vikings...like really good). That was his weakness last year imo. He's also doing a damn good job blocking so far this year. I thought it was a given that we were going to cut him in the offseason due to his salary, but I'm not so sure anymore(it's a pretty big dead money hit to cut him). His recent play is very encouraging.
