Fan story( On flight back to LA with Bill Vinovich)

The plane is filled with Saints fans. We outnumbered Rams fans going to Los Angeles by 3 to 1....Similar to their home games. Anyway, a Rams fan goes to sit next to Bill but a Saints fan yells out..."Congratulations. What about that call?" The Rams fan not realizing he was about to sit next to Vinovich says, "I'm sorry that was a horrible call against you guys." Next Rams fan opens the newspaper. Vinovich glances over, the Headlines, "They blew the call". I'm contemplating all the way to Los Angeles as he sleeps wondering if I'm going to say anything. Finally we start to get off the plane. I go into the isle to exit. I lean over and say, "Hey Bill (he was shocked that I knew who he was) tough game last night huh? Next time take the time to get it right". He hangs his head down in shame. A slight bit of sarcasm coming from me. I couldn't say what I wanted but he got the point. If you read his story the guy almost died 6-7 years ago. I'm guessing my compassion came into play by not letting me say what I wanted to. I'm hurting tonight like almost all of you. It's been eating away at me all day. I woke up at midnight and couldn't go back to sleep. I do know that just like the Vikings game we will get past it. I'm guessing it will take a good part of the offseason for me. It's freaking hard to get where we just got to but our city is strong, our team and our coach are strong. We will come back. I'm a lifer and will support our team. WhoDat!

For all their accomplishments throughout years that they have officiated, I hope this will be their legacy one thinks about of them for years to come.

Vinovich had nothing to do with the blown call...he was no where near the play

I just can't figure out why any of the referees would have spent the night (Sunday after the game) in New Orleans..?
Vinovich might bare some blame, but he's really watching the line of scrimmage on the play. Gary Cavaletto seems to be the main culprit.

Cavaletto and Patrick Turner both had domain over the "area" of the field where the infraction happened
both bear blame for the no call
esp. since Turner had his hand on his flag and was ready to pull it and then just decided to let it go

After spending 24 hours thinking about it, I can’t pile it on Vinovich. Is he a scumbag? Yes. Should he resign? Of course. Did he frick up our Super Bowl run? Absolutely.
But, this guy is in way over his head. He had an assignment. He had a directive from the top brass. Do you follow orders and accomplish the mission? Of course. The guy has a family and people who depend on him, I’m sure.
Bill is an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a debt. He was never in a position to exact justice, arbitrate, or rule in anyone’s favor based on what he saw or what actually happened. And that’s what makes this so horrible. Not just for the Saints, and New Orleans, but for anyone who follows an NFL team.
You can’t call what we witnessed last night a sport. It’s entertainment. It’s also fixed gambling. The NFL should have RICO charges brought against them and an investigation should begin to find those culpable. If you watched the end of that game, and feel like your team isn’t susceptible to the same type of fraud and discrimination by the league through the use of their own referees, by all means continue to support their product.

It appeared to me that Cavaletto made a hand gesture to Turner that the ball was tipped, therefore Turner refrained from throwing the flag.

all of Cavaletto's hand signals are directed at Coach Payton
Turner actually tells Cavaletto "bang bang"... meaning ball and defender arrived at the same time in his eyes

He’s too caught up in all of this. They all are.
They should be given immunity in exchange for their testimony. This could all be exposed if the right people would speak out. (I really feel like one day, Payton will be that guy)

I'm sure that's what Hot Rod Williams was thinking when he agreed to shave off a few points.
There is legal precedent to bring criminal charges against the refs and whoever put them up to it.
I found this snippet on the Wikipedia page for Point Shaving:

Not the best source, but it illustrates the point.
Hot Rod Williams and every other basketball player charged with point shaving can attest to the fact that it is in fact a crime.
