This argument that "Arizona built a top 2 defense using LSU players" ignores the fact that one of which we had 0 shot of getting, the other one NEEDED to get away from here and ontop of that would probbaly have busted anywhere else without his mentor PP.

Our defensive woes really began since 2012, so these are defensive lsu players since then from the draft:

2012:
mo claiborne 6th - below average to average
michael brockers 14th - above average
brandon taylor 73rd - bad
ron brooks 124th - average

2013:
barkevous mingo 6th - bad
eric reid 18th - above average
kevin minter 45th - average to above average
bennie logan 67th - average to above average
tyrann mathieu 69th - above average to elite
sam montgomery 95th - bad
Tharold Simon 138th - bad
lavar edwards 143rd - bad

2014:
ego ferguson 51st - below average
lamin barrow 156th - bad

2015:
Jalen Collins 42nd - below average
danielle hunter 88th - average to above average
kwon alexander 124th - above average

so how exactly are we going to build this team with "good defensive players"??

couldn't get michael brockers

reid and vaccaro are a wash anywho, they both do their jobs well. both have had 1 down year with 2 good-above average years

we lost hte 2nd rounder which ended up becoming kevin minter next

logan/mathieu were picked right before we took armstead

could have drafted danielle hunter and kwon, but we just drafted Anthony and Kikaha and went for future (grayson) and high potential/need (PJ Williams)

Good post but

tyrann mathieu 69th - above average to elite

Come on, if it weren't so heavily based on sacks, Mathieu is an annual potential DMVP. Dude is elite.

He would have been a late 1st if not for his pot issue. 31 teams made the same mistake and, removing hindsight, I don't think any necessarily made the wrong decision.

This. And I don't think Tharold Simon can be placed in the bad category yet. He's still doing ok in Seattle.

There are approximately 55 lsu players currently on NFL 90 man rosters. This 55 does include Breaux, who is listed officially as an LSU player.

32 teams. This is less than 2 players per roster. We have one, Breaux. We are marginally below average in our LSU player ratio. You guys are so dumb sometimes

What did he go to? I didn't notice anything different in the Texans game.

That 2013 draft was just awful! I think the first 15 picks or so may have produced only a few starters and there's only a handful of good players in the first two rounds.

htran spelled it out very well in his post. You really have to look at where the LSU players went in the draft and where the Saints drafted. Most of the players everyone always bitches about weren't realistic targets for the Saints at their draft positioning.

quote:

The Cardinals have built a top 2 defense in the league with a core of LSU players but, we're crazy for thinking a pro team right down the road should take advantage of being so close to a factory like LSU

Using this Cardinals argument, how exactly would we have targeted the LSU players they have?

Peterson was a 5th overall pick, we didn't draft until 24. Should we have paid a kings ransom to move up?

Minter was a 2nd round pick in a year we didn't have a 2nd round pick. Should we have reached with our 15th overall pick and drafted him 30 spots ahead of where he went?

Mathieu was the 69th overall pick, the only pick we had prior to that was the 15th overall. Should we have drafted him in the 1st round 54 spots ahead of where he went? Should he have been a first round pick, in hindsight maybe, but at the time there were serious bust concerns and everyone thought he needed to get out of N.O.

I'll say it one more time. Anyone who honestly thinks the Saints avoid LSU players is a moron and doesn't understand how a football front office really works (or they're a troll).

Something we don't have and that's a decent risk for a guy who doesn't fit our system.

Mingo is a free agent at the end of the season. If he has a good year, the Pats won't sign him because they don't pay anyone but their QB and TE. Detillier was saying the Saints would be a good fit if Mingo does well this year and isn't seeking bank breaking money.

There's lots of ifs and buts involved with player signings and trades. Where the guy went to school isn't one of them, or it isn't one of the big ifs or buts.

Just get over yourselves, LSU people.
