He still has $10 million prorated bonus from his previous contract that does not disappear with a restructure. You have to take that into account.

That is taken into account why year #1 (2016) is 20.0mil prorated, gave him a 40mil signing bonus which spread 10mil equally.

How about just give him the Pelicans. Brees gets paid and no cap hit for the Saints. It is a win-win.

All kidding aside those moves look pretty good. What is the total amount those moves would save?

Locking up Armstead and restructuring Brees have to be the two main goals heading into the offseason.

There's no way we're signing a deal where Brees still has a 20+ mil cap hit in 2019. If anything this will be a front loaded deal where I'm assuming he'll still make 18-20/year but the cap hit lowers every year.

Get

Princo or Mo. Need guy who can hold his own as a #1 or 2 (will not be with 40 healthy and more experienced). We need a corner who can at least not be abused if he and Keenan miss a game or two, we've had some terrible cornerbacks

Ngata or boone

If Ngata can be had you get him while Drafting a successor. If we want a stopgap get boone but I'd rather go with youth there.

Agree/hope with most all of that.

If Colston retires its a must to get a veteran WR who's a good leader and locker room guy above all else.

And signing Terron to a extension would be a very smart move.

I think you can add Morestead to your list as saving us cap via cut or restructure as well.

Say he signs for 3/60, He's reducing '16 from the 30mil to 22mil,' 17 is 29 with a 10mil roster bonus (which will be restructured), '18 is 19, and '19 is 20. How much more frontloaded do you expect?

This just kicks the can down the $30 million can down the road to next year. Is a $28.75m cap hit sustainable for any team for any player?

I took that from loomis' other contracts. Next year's cap hit is high arbitrarily like Jordan's, will be restructured and reduced to 18mil, but pushes 18 and 19 by 5mil and back loading it.
