Duece, IMO, is doing a great job and I'm glad he's on. He brings a players perspective to the broadcast and calls it like it is. He's not perfect, but I can't think of a better man, or woman, for the job.

Not everyone listening to a radio broadcast is watching the TV with the sound turned off. Description is a plus. Try listening to some old radio mystery theater. It may calm your nerves.

First year calm down even David Wesley sucked his first year now he's really good.
Wesley pissed me off so much his first year. He would constantly argue with joel about the dumbest shite.

Color commentary is not easy. And speaking in general on the radio can be a trial. You can't have dead air, so no pausing to think about what you need to say next. You have to think and speak at the same time almost. And you need to say it with clarity. That's why people throw in "Uh" and "You know."
The time we could take to consider our words carefully aren't there. This is often why there's both a color and play by play guy at all. Can't analyze a thing when you need to see which # is laying hurt, while also making sure the audience knows the down and distance, etc.
Crap is NOT easy.

Deuce
D E U C E
might be my new favorite saints commentator. I like him a lot. On short run plays and plays that get blown up he analyzes which lineman fricked up, he's really more knowledgeable about the actual game of football that the rest of them and he's obviously more knowledgeable about Brees, Payton, and the organization.
This is his first year. If this is his floor as a commentator he's going to. Absolutely amazing in a few years.
frick you for questioning one of the all time greatest and my personal all time favorite Saints.

He legitimately sounded ecstatic on Golden Tate's long TD.
I noticed this too. It was weird. It's like the other poster has said, the few times I've heard him this year, haven't been good. He used to be one of the best. Idk what happened.

Hopefully with experience he'll learn to drop the "ums" and "you knows". It gets pretty bad at times.

He does a good job describing the action without trying too hard tosound too technical. Also does a good job explaining the ins and outs of the plays (he played for SP so he is familiar) and what SHOULD have happened if the play isn't executed.
His delivery is still a work in progress but for his first year he has done well and I enjoy his voice on the call.

I like listening to him. No commentator is a world beater but his analysis is good.

I have been gone from New Orleans (and WWL Radio range) for quite a few years now.
When on the road, I can catch Jim and Deuce on Sirius. I admit I got spoiled with Jim, Hokie, and Kenny Wilkerson for a long stretch.
I would like to see Deuce, regardless of time and station, host a weekly radio show during the offseason (I apologize if he does or previously did). He definitely needs the reps to eliminate the distracting filler words. They personally detract a lot from the broadcast for me.
I also hope in his spare time that he would listen to weekly tapes of other former players - now Radio Color Analysts that work in the NFL and feel free to copy some of their style.
