By nature if you're a saints fan you tune in to Baton Rouge on Saturday nights as well... So I propose this, Fournette is a once in a generation back like Adrian Peterson, what do y'all think if the saints traded back in this draft to a team like Cleveland, and possibly tried to acquire their #1 next year which will undoubtedly be low, and the Saints draft Leonard with that top 5-7 pick next year...
At #12 this year there is no definite super star the saints are projected to get, and they could trade back and get relatively the same talent later on, maybe some crappy team would want to trade in and get Lynch at 12, who I think might be gone by then anyway.
Fournette is a beast of a running back and would be fitting to represent Louisiana by playing for the hometown saints, AND he could take pressure off the aging Brees with a consistent run game.

What do y'all think? How could we get #7 back to NO

If he is available when we pick, I wouldn't hate the pick. We've been pretty inconsistent running the ball the last few years. I don't think we should trade up for him though.

All that said, the draft is dynamic, so there are a million things that could happen to change my mind.

I'm not saying SP hates LSU but if he had a choice between Fournette and some random punt returner from Colorado State, I think we all know which one he's drafting

Same could have been said about the Raiders a year ago.

The last LSU player that stood out as a saint to me was Devery Henderson... It is sad SP doesn't draft LSU players, which are typically La natives

It'd be interesting to see Fournette stay home with the Saints, but I honestly don't think it'll happen. Plus, next year's RB class is loaded; Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffery, Dalvin Cook and a couple others.

I'm happy with Ingram.

And I don't want to have a pick high enough for Fournette next year. Sorry.

Hence why I said trade with Cleveland to try and acquire their high 1st round next year....

I like Ingram too, but he's shown flashes of inconsistency, and he's not on the same level as Fournette

Would you take Ingram over Adrian Peterson or Marshal Faulk? I'd say Tim Hightower is just as good as Ingram

I would take Ingram + a talented player a position of need over drafting Fournette and having redundancy at the position, yes.

Tim Hightower is not in the same stratosphere as Ingram. Your purple & gold glasses are showing, man. I love Fournette and I think he will be an unstoppable back for a long time but he is not a realistic pick for this team.

Man, I saw what #1 cost the Rams... so two questions...

1) do we really want to give up all that for a RB?

and

2) Haven't we Saints fans seen that movie before?

I agree to an extent, the NFL draft can be a crap shoot though, there's really only a handful of prospects that you know will perform in the NFL, I just think Fournette is a can't miss and would help any team regardless of the backfield depth. And as far as my purple and gold glasses, you got it right, I don't take them off when football season is over, it's LSU all the time

Or how about this, you saw the haul Cleveland and Tennessee got... If we got a 1-2 pick screw taking fournette, I'm trading back.

You can do all of that and it still not work out like you hoped.

It's rare for half of a round tongo according to plan. Damn near impossible to plan / prepare for NEXT years draft and have it go according to plan. Way too much time between then and now to even think about it. You don't make a trade in this years draft to position yourself for a certain player in next years draft. So many things can change between now and then.

Best way to trade up and get a player you want is to do it on draft day when that player is still available and trade with the team that's on the clock. That way you know for a fact that you are going to get that player.

And LF is great, but we need to address other spots way more than we need to get a RB, especially in the 1st round. We need an overhaul of quality players on both sides of the ball, not just 1 elite player at RB and a handful of decent guys. We don't have the luxury of being able to do that right now considering our talent across the board.
