Draft Pick #64

The end of the college regular season begins the draftmania season. Last year at this time I was thinking Aldon Smith, Justin Houston, Akeem Ayers, Muhammed Wilkerson, Phil Taylor, etc. Some of them rose or sunk in value to not fit. Some would have been pretty good. So the way early wish list of players that might could be available at #64 in early projections...
Melvin Ingram DE South Carolina, speed rusher who could move up boards, more likely wishful thinking
Bruce Irvin DE West Virginia, if he can fit 4-3, poor season will have his stock down a lot, immense physical tools, very raw tho
Alex Okafor DE Texas, speed rusher that could also rise up boards with an impressive Combine
Nico Johnson LB Alabama, Jr who could stay another year, has played all LB spots in their 3-4, maybe a little early at #64
Travis Lewis LB Oklahoma, prolly the best fit for need and fitting in this pick range. Undersized but quick. Good instincts and good in coverage. WLB in my books. Tez Wilson to SAM next year.
Ronnell Lewis LB Oklahoma, more prototypical and a fierce hitter. Has had significant hot and cold streaks though.
Just some to keep you eyes on if you watch any bowl games.
For those wanting a speedy WR look at Kendall Wright Baylor, & TY Hilton FIU- although perhaps too high at 2nd Rd. All around WR Nick Toon is prolly the biggest name that might fit late 2nd. Greg Childs and Ryan Broyles will be interesting to see what range they go from the injuries.
DTs Rogers & Franklin are only on 1yr deals and could be gone. DTs that that might be in that range to me are Kwame Geathers Georgia, Devon Still Penn St, & Jaye Howard Florida.
The team is looking pretty solid in regard to age and contracts to positions. Barring losing WRs to FA a speed rusher or LB are the only glaring needs IMO.

Was Romeus considered a pass rusher? If he comes back strong that could lessen the need and allow us to focus on LB help

He was indeed. A great investment. Thought to be a first rounder before plagued with serious injury. He may never be elite again (and then he might) but he may end up good enough to work his way up the depth chart with as woeful as our line rush has been.

That would be great if he and Wilson could come back next year and contribute. I think we need to focus on getting some useful DTs and LBs.
Really don't see any reason to get anything on offense at this point except maybe some OL depth.

Looking at OLB, a position where we really need an upgrade, Danny Trevathon from Kentucky really looked Impressive this year as did Immanual Acho from Texas. We definitely need an upgrade in speed at that position.

As somebody said last week, a healty Romeus is our first round pick next year.

I think that's part of the reason loomis pulled the trigger on giving up this years first round pick.
You got 1st round graded talent in Ingram.
You got a 1st rd talent in the 3rd rd in Jimmy.
You potentially got 1st rd talent late is romeus.
You brought in a 1st rd de. Hopefully Jordan continues to develop.
Not your Father's Saints!

Are you Mike Detiller? If not you should be

I haven't looked to see where he'd go, but I would think Trevathon would be a high pick??? I'd love to have him.

Danny Trevathon. A must have that instantly upgrades the LB corp.

He's good?
Just hard to imagine taking anyone from that team this year

Brandon Boykin could be a late round steal IMO

is this the time of the year when we start picking out all kinds of LB's we can get with the first pick of our draft?

Is Jarvis Jones eligible?

I'm guessing #64 is too high, and he might not have even declared yet, but what about Sean Spence? I've just always thought that was a playmaker at OLB ever since he got to Miami.

Imho we need to overhaul the interior DL soon. Rodgers and Frankin are probably gone. I'd bring Franklin back if possible.
Ellis has underperformed.
We don't get enough gut pressure. Just look at the last game Stafford had all day to step up. The good qbs in nfl like brees aren't phased by outside rush, only by gut pressure.
I would look for a penetrating DT or sign one. We offered Cullen jenkins and brandon mebane so we obviously saw the need.
Hope that Romeus pans out at DE and go with Smith and Jordan for now although they are not very good pass rushers.
We can't afford to have our SS lead us in sacks. Something has to improve.
