Does anyone have a sales pitch for the Saints winning more than 5 games?

And I'll preface this by saying at 37, just dropping Drew Brees' name is not a valid argument.

This current regime has never finished lower than 7-9. That seems to be the floor.

Positives
1. Improved defense (Byrd looks better, Fairley looks like a steal, and Kruger was a huge late off season pickup)
2. Better or healthier offensive playmakers (Thomas replaced Colston, Spiller looks healthy, and signed Fleener).

Negatives
1. Wrose offensive line play (Peat sucks at this point). I honestly think Sitton would have resulted in one or two more wins due to such a huge improvement over our curent guards.
2. Defensive line injuries (losing Rankins for 8 games and Kikaha for most likely the season hurts a talent light defense)

I think we win between 7 and 9. Only real chance to make the playoffs will be to keep Brees under 12 interceptions and our defense generate at least a +10 turnover ratio for the season, along with finishing avove 20th in yards. Our drafting has killed a potential golden era of Saints football. Too many misses or reaches when we were on top that we are just beginning to turn the corner on.

Last time we changed our efensive coordinator, we went to the playoffs.

This makes no sense. Drew has literally shown zero signs of regression. He was dominant last year. We have never had less than 7 wins with him.

The answer is Drew Brees. There are plent of below average teams we aren't the only one. And we will have the better QB 4 out of 5 times.

Thank goodness I can't use in my argument a top 5 QB from last year and a sure fire HoF'er.

Well then my sales pitch will be the center. We have a really good center who took seatlle to the Superbowl

The worst of all things happened before the Saints have even played one game.

LSU loss. So the dark skies have opened up and the heavens will release a never ending torrent of woe and bile upon us. Only Bourbon and going 19-0 can save us

IMO it's not, with a 37 year old QB and a piss poor OL.

Some of Brees's worst games and season have come when he had to run around and try to win the games single handedly.

This Saints OL will have major problems stopping the pass rush and opening holes for RB's. Unless you think the coaches purposely made the OL look terrible to confuse opposing teams for the regular season.

He ended last season playing some of the best ball of his career. Had something like 11 TDs/1 int in the last 5 games while our offense rolled.

We haven't seen a decline yet, or at least not a meaningful one.

Essentially the same oline we had at the end of last season when we went 3-2 and put up 35+ vs Carolina. That's what separates the Saints from being contenders at this point.

I think we haven't seen our offensive line yet with a healthy Armstead. Our receivers also seem to be a better group than previous years.

Our defense appears to be improved too and certainly can't get worse in that area.

Yes, he has (not that it is a major regression), but it's expected given his age. It has to happen at some point. It did with all of the previous greats... Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Dan Marino and John Elway to a degree.

To prove his decline, objectively, Drew Brees has thrown for less touchdowns every year since 2011.

Again, it's not a major regression, but it is regression. He's still one of the best in the NFL. Sometimes they go down hill faster than anyone can see coming...

Well that doesn't actually prove it.

Our WRs haven't been close to what they used to be, nor has our offensive line.

He also had his 4th highest Passer Rating with the Saints last season to go along with his 3rd best 2 years ago.

The defense shows major signs of improvement over last season.

Brees has better options to throw to.

RBs are healthy.

O-line sucks, but is no worse than last year.

Team went 7-9 last year, and this year's team looks much better on paper.

We have, in my opinion, a defense that will finish ranked somewhere between 15 and 20. Additionally, I think that this defense shows signs of being much more fundamentally sound. I believe that we will see an uptick in turnovers provided by our defense. This defense showed signs in preseason but there is so much youth and the defense that was called was very vanilla that it was hard to see.

What I do know from preseason is that Breaux is going to continue to lock down one side of the field. Williams has the potential to have a season like Breaux had last year. His growth in 4 preseason games has been fun to watch. The youth behind these 2 is very exciting. No more PRob or Jason David.

I think that we will get way more production out of our safetys and LBs. Finally, I love the addition of Kruger to our DL. His motor is relentless. Maybe he doesn't end up with the sacks but I think that he gets a ton of pressures. Jordan and Fairley will benefit tremendously from him. It hurts to lose Rankins for half a season but Davison looks ready to step up and Jenkins should be better. Our DL is better suited to attack as opposed to the read and react under Ryan.

If we can give Brees a Top 20 defense that can add possessions to him, Cooks and Snead should win enough match ups early in games to open up the run game in the 2nd half. If we need to keep a TE and RB to help block to make this happen, do so. We still need a guard if possible but maybe Evan Turner steps up to take one of the starting jobs. The thing about OL is if you aren't noticing him, he's probably playing well. We didn't really notice him in preseason and he made the team. How much of the backup OL issues were due to Allen being undersized? No way for us to know but it's likely.

I feel better about this team than I have over the last couple of years. It has a 2006 feel to it. I think that we will win 10 games.

Drew Brees is a valid argument(Best player on the team and he plays the most important position). He has never lost more than 9 games in a season as a Saint with worse teams than this one. In fact you have to go back to 2003 to find a year where Drew did not surpass that win total.

He is still playing at an elite level and his supporting cast at the skill positions have improved from a season ago when he was a Top 3 NFL QB.

Sean Payton is still one of the best offensive minds in the NFL. The names keep changing but the offense keeps producing.

Our defense improved in talent from a season ago at every single level. That will yield results. To what degree not sure yet.

As terrible as this defense was...we were within a single possession in 6/9 losses.

While we may not be sold on Dennis Allen as a DC...Sean is. Unlike last year where Rob Ryan was set up to be a fall guy from the beginning.

We also have a very favorable close in terms of where we play. Our late fall/winter schedule are all domes or wonderful weather locations like Florida and Cali.

Drew Brees has shown no signs of slowing down.

5,000+ yards in 2013

4900+ yards in 2014

4800+ yards in 2015

If this 100 yard decline means he will throw for 4700+, I'll take it and he might even lead the league in passing.
