DJax and J Maclin speed at WR

We have 3 fast WRs. Is it possible that we could see something similar to what they had in Philly with those 2 dudes? Throw in JG, and we should have something fairly special on O, kinda like 2011. If the Oline can do anything at all, look out. In fact, the same goes for the DL.

A lot of similarities there with Djax vs Cooks and Maclin vs Stills. They're extremely similar, size and speed wise. Plus, we have a better QB, an equal OL and a better offensive coach. We don't have a top RB though.
I'm excited to see what we can get out of the guys we have this season. Should be excellent.

Joe Morgan will struggle to make the team. He might, but he's not a sure thing.

Who do you think could make it in front of Morgan? I don't think he's a sure thing, but if he still has the explosiveness that he had before the injury he will most likely make it.

Are you thinking Coleman ahead of Morgan? I can't see CSP not using that kinda speed and 37 yards per reception to his advantage. I ask about Coleman because most seem to be really high on him. What WRs do you see making the squad?

IMO
Colston
Stills
Cooks
Morgan
Meachem

Morgan/Meachem
Shouldn't this be an interesting camp battle? Do we really need both of these guys? Bascially the same player, no? I've been one who has been really high on Coleman only because one of my friends is a Rutgers fan and has been planting his name in my ear for over a year now. Really hope he makes the squad and turns into one of those guys that goes undrafted and becomes a star.
That said about Morgan and Meachem, I hope we keep both of them as well. I don't see Toon making this team, as I've lost close to all hope on him. Won't let him string me along for 4 years like Arrington did.

Not with Stills and Cooks. Meachem has the advantage of playing experience, and is a better pass blocker, but Morgan was having a really good camp last year before getting hurt, and has more upside. Should be an interesting Training Camp.

I think a lot of fans are more down on Toon than the team is. I know he was awful in the Jets game last year, and you can point at his two drops as the of the biggest reasons we lost that game, but I still have hope in him. Last year was pretty much his Rookie season as far as playing time goes. I'm not saying he's a lock to make the team, but I think he has more of a chance than a lot of people are giving him credit for.

Meachem is the only WR we have that is even remotely competent at run blocking so I don't see many scenarios where he isn't on the team.

I see a few scenarios.
1. Toon wins it.
2. Morgan wins it.
3. Jones wins it.
4. Coleman Hawkins or Hull wins it.
Meach is going into his 9th year. When the wheels come off they don't go back on for WR's. Ask Devery.

Maybe he is, but it isn't certain. Triplett had a nice write up recently about the WR battle. I realize he's our best run blocker at WR, but I think Meachem ends up being the odd man out. It's going to take more than run blocking to make the final 53 with the competition at WR this year.

4. Nick Toon. After those three, I think Toon has the best chance to make the roster. The Saints are still high on Toon's potential, even though he failed to take advantage of his midseason opportunity for playing time while Lance Moore was injured last year. And I don't believe Toon was in the "doghouse” when he got benched during the second half of the season. He was the fifth receiver, and the Saints typically keep only four active on game days. However, Toon will have to make sure he proves in training camp that he's ready to step up into a greater role -- and that he indeed could be an eventual successor to fellow big man Colston. Otherwise, the Saints might turn their attention toward someone like Coleman in that "redshirt” role.

Agreed. They are going to do their best to keep Cooks, Stills, and Morgan. We all know guys their size tend to get hurt more frequently.

I disagree. I think his value as a run blocker is being over valued, and Meachem is going to have to show more than run blocking to make the team this year. Being that we average more yards per rush in 2012 without Meachem (4.3), than we did with him last year (3.8), we can definitely run the ball without him.

Colston, Cooks, and Stills are locks.
After that, it could go almost a million ways. I'm not even gonna guess, but you have 2 spots and at least 5 guys could legitimately play themselves into it.

Yeah, that's why they ran the ball better in 2012... No Meachem.

Because that's what I said, right? Don't be dumb. Correlation =/= causation. I was responding to those that say Meachem will make it because he's our best run blocker. I provided that stat to show we CAN run better without Meachem, not that not having Meachem was the reason we ran better.

Post stats on yards outside the tackles or GTFO.

Then why even bring it up? There is also a correlation of no Bushrod, having Strief for more games, Evans missing games etc. Why bring up this one thing without the other if you are talking correlation?

This is the point. Don't just use a single stat that supports your narrow argument.
