I don't care why they brought him back. I love me some Deuce. I cannot wait to see him dressed out on the sidelines and hopefully running in for a touchdown. Geaux Deuce!! Geaux Saints!!!

I like the move because:
- It's a classy thing to do and puts the Saints in a positive light
- The crowd will go insane
- If they put Leisle on IR on Wednesday, then this is a great use of that roster spot for this week. Even if they had found a replacement, he would not have been ready for Saturday. Now, they could have resigned McKenzie for DB help, just in case, but the emotional jolt from the Deuce have a greater impact, IMHO.
- After decades of sub-par management, I think the current front office has earned some respect. Loomis and Co. have done an outstanding job

He'll be activated and he'll play but mostly as a decoy and probably blocking.. He might even play for short yardage... No one can stop Deuce on shortage yardage especially if his knees are at 100%...
And If he plays on short yardage and he breaks one or two for long yardage he might steal some carries from the others.
Lets try to remember that this is the guy who had 100 yards in 9 straight games one season before injuries plaque him..

Payton and Loomis are geniuses. This will blow the top off the dome bringing the crowd into the game with an extra emotional edge. That's the only reason. Payton is trying to seal it up and give the fans even more of a "steroid shot" to get insane. nice move.
what about McKenzie???

debbie downer?
look deuce is an all time Saints great. So is archie manning. Doesnt mean we should sign him 1 day before literally the biggest game in Saints history
and especially not when we've had 3 weeks to get him some reps if we indeed needed another RB.
it just doesnt make sense to activate him

Les, you think the honorary captain thing is wack or it'd be stupid to actually play him?
Posted on 1/15/10 at 1:49 pm to Elleshoe
the captain thing is fine
and i dont care if they play him if Pierre Thomas is inactive
i dont think he should pass hamilton up, who has played all year and been a contributor.
not after being signed 1 day before a playoff game. no way

I think people confuse "active roster" and active/inactive on gameday.
A player that is inactive on gameday is still on the "active roster".
Deuce is going to be inactive.
A player that is inactive on gameday is still on the "active roster".
Deuce is going to be inactive.

He's not guaranteed to stay inactive...in fact, there are still places like ESPN reporting that he's active. My thought was that if you're on the 53 active roster, you're ACTIVE, That's just me though, just reading.
Posted on 1/15/10 at 1:54 pm to saintsrow
All 53 players are on the "active roster".
Only 45 players are activated on gameday. 8 are designated inactive for that game and that game only.

There are conflicting reports about his activity or inactivity on the ACTIVE roster.
Just wait it out.

Here is why Deuce is back. P. Thomas is likely the best back on the roster at picking up the blitz or chucking a rushing lineman. Thomas with cracked ribs has got to be questionable to go through the playoffs. Deuce is a litte insurance to this. He will practise with the team and be ready to assist against J. Ware of Dallas or Allen of Vikes. This is why he is back.

Apparently not. We finally have the official story.
quote:
Originally, McAllister had agreed to serve as a guest captain for the game to help fire up the team and the fans. Then when defensive tackle Rodney Leisle suffered a knee injury, General Manager Mickey Loomis suggested that they should sign McAllister to the roster to make him an official part of the team.
McAllister, who has not been with a team since the Saints released him in February, isn't quite ready to jump right back into the action, though.
"This is more about doing something the right way and bringing the guy back," said Payton, who said he contacted McAllister about three weeks ago to see if he would be available.
..."It was a good deal. It was awesome," Payton said of the team's response to McAllister's return. "And it was fitting because of the way he had played in the divisional round for us three years ago."
Now that he's on the official roster, McAllister will also earn a playoff share of $21,000 from a league pool.
