Iirc the ppg given up also includes that pick 6, so that should be factored in (or out as it may be) the see what the actual defense's ppg given up is.

Edit:
The defense has given up 6.66 ppg. Clearly we made a deal with the devil

For those that say "its only preseason" look at our past three years preseason defensive rankings....

Its ok to be enthused at the prospect of a serviceable defense. Yes the numbers mean jack, but I tell you what doesn't....

The guys on D are doing their jobs and seem to be playing fast, especially at LB. Gap control and accountability. Anzalone missed his assignment on a pass play and Klein gave him a ear full. LBs coverage in the flat. Anzalone knocked the ball away from a quick throw due to pressure. And CBs that play the ball. Safety's that fill and make sure tackles.

These are thing that, if carried into the regular season, will get us some wins.

Starting QBs faced:

Brock Osweiler
Kellen Clemens
Tom Savage.

That being said...

Shitty QBs usually kill us. Every QB usually kills us.

I am very very cautiously optimistic. They've looked better than I could have expected.

Well, yeah it's preseason, but our preseason defensive rankings the last 3 years have been like mid 20's or something (saw a tweet on it earlier I can't find), so it's definitely an improvement.

QBs faced won't mean shite if the Dline keeps abusing Olines like they have. And, if the LBs keep covering like they have. And, if the CBs play the ball.

They are doing stuff we have been begging them to do for years. I fully expect this to carry into the regular season. Not 2nd overall, but get off the field on 3rd and long. Get Drew a possession or two extra and add a win or two.

One other thing nobody seems to be talking about is the special teams coverage. These guys aren't giving much in returns. Helps the D in starting field position.

It means more than you know and will translate to the regular season. We have an abundance of young, talented players and most importantly, better coaching. The latter is why you really see those numbers. We are getting the most out of these young guys. That is how it should be. Great coaching and gap/scheme discipline. Me likey....

I take it this way. In the past, horrible qbs looked elite. That tells us we never had a chance of being halfway decent.

Us making bad qbs look bad at least says there's a chance. Could we still be 28th ranked, very much so. But having a chance of improving is better than no chance

It's all gonna come down to CB play imo. The reason we've been doing well is pressure. To get pressure CBs have to cover. I like our chances if Dennis Allen continues to bring pressure, and our coverage holds up.

Agreed. Hopefully 2 of PJ Williams, Lattimore, & Breaux are healthy at all times. Moore & Crawley are good depth, but I'd rather not have to rely on them as starters.

D-Line is legit & deep, safety is legit & deep, I like our top 4 LB's & Stupar is a good option as a spot starter. Just need to have good luck this year concerning the CB situation.
