NFL Network replayed the Week 14 game against the Falcons from last season. As I was watching the game I couldn't help but think of a lot of the different topics I've seen on this board about how we need to trade Bush, that Pierre Thomas isn't feature back material, and sign Michael Vick. After watching the game, I remembered (quite fondly) that this game wasn't a fluke, but how much of the season went when we had a HEALTHY Reggie Bush, and came up with this conclusion...

If you think we need to trade Bush, that Thomas isn't feature back material, or that we need to sign Vick - you're fricking retarded.

Pierre Thomas can get the job done as the featured back, and he's one hell of a kickoff returner too. He has speed, he has agility, he has power, and he had drive. He's not too shabby catching passes out of the backfield either...

Bush CAN run between the tackles, last season he began to show that he had learned to run there. He can also catch passes both from out of the backfield and lined up as a wideout or slot receiver. He can also be a tremendous threat returning punts. I'm curious how he'd do as a kickoff returner paired up with Thomas...

And lastly, Drew Brees needs to touch the ball 100% of the offensive snaps, so no, there is NO NEED for a Michael Vick, both from a strategic view point, and from a locker room chemistry point of view. We are much better off without Vick.

I'm pretty sure there will be at least 10 more topics started claiming we need to run the Wild Cat offense, and that we need Michael Vick, whether it be as a backup quarterback or some sort of kick returner, etc. We don't. Offensively, our team is setup to win the Super Bowl. Defensively, we still have to wait and see, but most true Saints fans will agree, that Gregg Williams is the key to a defensive resurrection here in New Orleans...

I don't think anyone's been crazy enough to suggest he starts over Brees, but some have suggested he take the snaps sometimes, which we do not need.

Let Vick get a fresh start somewhere else. We finally have all the pieces of the puzzle fitting into place, we do not need a bad apple to mess up the chemistry in the lockeroom.

PT can be the feature back for the Saints, I agree with that. BUT using a game against the 25th rushing defense in the NFL is not a good argument for him

You got all of that wise information from one game last season?

i watched the game too and i could barely stomach the horrible effing defense we trotted out there. Matt Ryan looked like Joe Montana and the receivers were wide open all day long. They converted a lot of 3rd and longs.

I hope so. We will see soon enough. I hope he cuts out that silly dance and show-boating like he did at Chicago when he made a touchdown last year though.

I agree, he was showing some potential last year. One problem for all of our backs is that no one can run when you have DT in your face as soon as you are given the ball. If our run blocking improved I think you would see Bush get better. I'm not saying that he is not to blame either but I think he shoulders too much of the blame.

I don't know if Thomas can be a featured back. He only had 129 carries, I would like to see what he does with 250-300 carries. A RBBC of Thomas, Bush, and Hamilton/Bell would probably be enough to get a good enough ground game to to take some pressure off of Drew Brees and the passing game though

Before I start, let it be known I'm not pushing for Mike Vick to be signed by the Saints.

I've read twice just in this thread about messing up the team chemistry by signing him. By all accounts, Vick is a great locker room guy. He has veteran playoff experience, fresh legs, and new level of humbleness. We don't need him, but why not add someone (on the cheap I'd say) who's a threat when he's on the field?

In today's NFL you need two backs to carry the load. It's not necessary to have an all-world running back, because he's not going to get 30+ touches every game. As long as you employ a committee of backs who can contribute positive plays for 15-20 touches a game each, you'll be competitive. And the Saints have that now.

i think getting vick would be good.if brees goes down we are done.with vick u might have a chance.atleast a better chance than we would have if brunell is back there.i think any running back would have a hard time running behind our O-line.we must improve on our run blocks.i really think bell will improve our short yard situations.bush plus PT will have good years as long as we block better.i think they shoulder to much of the blame for our bad rushing attack...

Dear Gametard...
Why not go back and find a great game that Aaron Brooks had for the Saints, and tell us all how he is so much better than Brees.
We do not have an every down back, we need one! Thomas is a good change of pace back, and Bush is a great decoy back. Neither one of them is great between the tackles. Find me another Duece...

we don't need any more playmakers on offense. we have the most explosive O in the NFL. yall really want to take balls away from shockey, bush, PT, devery, moore, and colston to give to Michael Vick??? it's the NFL, good players get unhappy when they don't get the ball enough.

we have enough offensive weapons. the only positions on o even worth considering right now are o line and possible situational power rb.

So he's going into his 4th year and he's still learning how to run between the tackles?

Better late than never? I think the O-line has a lot to do with Bush and Thomas' lack of success running the ball up the middle.
