Like others have said he's not the answer long term, but is a good bridge for the usama project or if we draft someone. We're going to need a vet back there with Williams' system. This would be a solid move

Agreed

I rather take a flyer on Mike Brown than Darren Sharper.

I will second this motion...when healthy Mike Brown is 1 of the premier safeties in the league

When was the last time he played 16 games. I'll give you a hint. It was 2003. Since then, he has played in 36 of 80 possible games (not including playoffs).

BTW, Sharper has played in 77 of 80 possible games (not including playoffs) in the same time span.

Mike Brown is 31 and Sharper is 33. Also, Ed Reed is 30, Brian Dawkins is 35, Lawyer Milloy is 35 and Chris Hope and Adrian Wilson are 29.

To rebut your comment.

Brown did more in the 15 games he played last season than what Sharper did in the 16 games. If Brown can stay on the field, he's the MUCH better player.

If he can being the key words there. He likely will get hurt and then it's back to square one with bullocks.

we'll still be at square one with Sharper getting burned and have no play making at the FS spot.

If that's who Williams feels good about running his fs Spot i'm going to go ahead and take his evaluation of sharper's skills over yours

Not the greatest pick-up, but this makes him the best safety the saints have.

BUMP from way back...

After seeing one preseason game, has your opinion on the Sharper pick-up changed or not and how well, or how bad, do you predict he will do this season?

I still think he will be a major contributor.

impressive first game IMO, made some plays but what I noticed more was that he seemed to be QBing the other backs with calls and alignment. I truly can never remember seeing that one time with Bullocks.

Perfect example was when Palmer threw it in the dirt, he was looking for Ocho who I thought was wide open. I actually said "Touchdown" when Palmer cocked his arm back.

After the play, my brother said Sharper had coverage over the top which Palmer didnt see at first. I responded with "I guess I"m just not used that"

He's even making lukewarm supporters like me look bad.

Plugging a hole til next season is probably the best play we can make right now.

Will Young and/or Jenkins actually replace him next year? Seems to be much more tread on the tire than everyone thought.

Yes, there is. Chad has already eaten his crow, but I don't expect SFP to do the same.

I'm not sure where he pulled the "Williams runs a lot of Cover 2" from, BTW...

per SFP:
quote:

i really don't know if he has much left in terms of man coverage

per eyeran
quote:

He's gonna be 34 and he had 69 tackles and only one pick last year.

sorry to call you out eyeran, but it was all the doubs like this, that are now a testament as to why Sharper is playing with a giant chip on his shoulders.
