So. What are you thoughts now that the trade is final? I'm ok with it because we solidified our line which will help our old QB and the next one.

LOVE IT.

AD and DB are certainly happy with turning a one dimensional WR into a road grader to replace an aging vet, possibly giving us the top oline in the league.

Agree. The limitations of midget QB throwing to midget WR are real. Which forced us to use cooks in a more one dimensional way. We needed a young, highly graded OT and got it. Being able to turn cooks, who was limited in this offense with Brees, into a potential 10 year starter at OT is a no brainer.

Get back to me in 3 years. Can't call a trade when we don't know how good Ram is going to be.

We also can't discount the production we got from Cooks prior to the trade. We got great use of the pick.

Cooks was far from "one dimensional", he could be effective running the entire route tree. Now if you had said Robert Meachem or Joe Morgan, I'd agree. Those type of guys will give you low catch totals and will normally have high yards per catch averages.

We ain't Dallas, but our o-line will be really good. Not only do we have two above average running backs, our aging QB now gets hit less and has to throw less keeping him healthier. This team has the potential to be the Cowboys last year, but better.

Cooks is not one dimensional himself. But combining a short WR with a short QB creates a much more one dimensional situation as the route tree becomes compressed. Cooks was very good in Nola but will probably be even better in NE with Brady. This is probably a case of good trade for both teams involved.

We graded out right there with Dallas last year. With a journeymen rotation at RG. We signed a fricking hoss in Wardford to fill that spot.

If we were an 8/10 last year. We are a 9.5 this year.

You can only grade the trade on premise and between the 2 whether it is extending Drew's career or breaking in a new QB the RT position and solidifying the OL for years is worth more than a very talented big play WR.

I think you can look at the trade that way if you want.

Personally I see you trading a player that you had 2 more seasons with and may have been unhappy for a chance to add two pieces of the puzzle.

One where now you have a new 5 year window to own on control those rights at a club friendly price. New Orleans might actually have a starting RT for 2018-2021 at an extreme bargain price.

I guess steve smith and Jake Delhomme really beat the odds in Carolina. So did Dave Krieg in Seattle with Steve Largent in the past and Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin currently.

This theory makes no sense, yes it's ideal to be able to throw jump balls to a guy that's taller than the person covering him, but I'm sure you'd love to have Antonio Brown on this team in a heartbeat. To say that a Wr's height makes him one dimensional is odd especially with Cooks's hands, speed, and agility. People also forget how the kid went up for the ball and won battles (Denver this past season is one that stands out). The only things limit a Wr in the NFL is bad qb play, poor route running, bad hands, and a lack of speed/quickness. None of those were a problem with Brees and Cooks.

I like it. Cooks might not be a one-dimensional WR (jury's out on that), but he was here.

Great numbers, but misleading... he was the quick strike guy. He wasn't the go-to for 3rd down, move the chains, or redzone.

Quick strikes are fine, but our defense was fragile, and got exposed too much. Fast TD drives followed by fast opponent TDs is basically a wash.
Need to slow it down, rest the D, establish the run, and maximize Brees' ability to control the flow.

Getting the top tackle in the draft trumps having a luxury at WR. REALLY odd, even in a down year, that O-line would drop so far. So just by this pick, I'd say we came out good. Will be interesting to see what we get with the 3rd rd pick.

A speedy WR to fill in the Cooks roll (not that hard to fill with Brees as your QB ) on a cheep contract for 4 years.

I don't like looking at is as Cooks for pick 32

The extra pick will affords us more flexibility throughout the draft
