Clock Management on our last TD drive.

Colston and Ingram casually going out of bounds was the most crucial mistake of the game. Both could have easily stayed in bounds and forced Atl to burn their TOs two plays earlier.
We had all of our TOs so the was our friend. I put that on SP for not instructing them to stay in bounds however both should have understood the situation.

Without watching it again (definitely won't be doing that), but I feel like it would have been hard for both to stay in. 1. They would have been sacrificing crucial yards to stay in and 2, both were wrapped it, so it's harder to bring yourself to the turf when the defenders have you held up and are driving you. For them to go down never they even made contact would be giving up even more yards.
While it would have been ideal to punch it in as time expired, the main goal on that drive is to score no matter what. A more fair criticism may be calling plays towards the sideline opposed to the middle of the field, but again, the main goal is to score, so you call the plays that will do that. Like I said, I didn't watch any of the game again, and was drinking, so I could be totally wrong.

I was screaming this shite while watching!
Almost came post it but was too lazy and dejected.
Payton should have told them, no matter what not to go out of bounds.

If they wanted to, both could have stayed in bounds.

Yeah that was really bad. You have to be way more aware of the clock there. I know you can't game it I much and risk not getting the TD, but Jesus you left over a minute and 20 seconds on there. They scored a damn FG with less than 20 before halftime.
There were so many mistakes in this game it's hard to point to one, but damn, that was a big one that should have iced the game.

The players were obviously not told to stay in bounds. I guess SP could have assumed they would but after Colston did it then it was inexcusable for Ingram to do it as well.

I thought they handled the clock pretty well before half but the defense just allowed 2 big plays.

I hear this, but its a two minute drill and they're worried about scoring a TD not playing "defense".
I find the "scored too fast" argument pretty ridiculous in general. You're team is down, you have to score. You take points any way you can get them.

You guys would have been royally pissed had we lost the game because time expired from them staying in bounds. There was no guarantee we score, so you take the points however you get them and hope the D steps up. They didn't, and the rest is history.

It's the excuse you put on the offense ... because it's easier to say than "dammit, our defense sucks shite, so we know we can't count on them ... so, not only do you need to score ... but, be sure to score on the last play of the game, or else we're screwed....because evidently it is simply unthinkable to kick-off for a touchback and then count on the D to stop someone from getting 40 yards in less than 1 minute."

Agreed. On offense you have to score. We can't blame the offense because the defense failed to make a stop when they needed to.

Didn't something similar to this happen last year?
Seems like Saints were driving and then basically clock ran out on the last drive.
My memory is hazy ... guy caught the ball and did not try to go out of bounds but ran across the field ... lateral, perhaps ... I don't remember.

I'm not sure, but you just can't assume you'll be able to score with no timeouts. Fumbled snap, runner stopped in the backfield, etc... game over. Can't risk it.

You do realize that we had all 3 TOs and we were inside the 20 yd line with under 2 mins left. We were NOT running out of time.

The probability of all that happening would have been WAY LOWER then what actually happened. Plus the time on the clock would have essentially been the same EXCEPT Atl would have had ZERO Timeouts.

That's incredibly easy to say after the fact. I can tell you the powerball numbers, for last week.

I can blame the coach for poor clock management. It is not like i am advocating taking a knee. Saints didnt force Atl to use their TOs. It then bit us in the arse.

Meh, people were saying it during the game game. Would have been nice, but you have to score. We called an off tackle run for Ingram and his job is to get as many yards as possible

The prob of a really good QB getting into FG range with 1:20 and 1 TO against a def that could not make a stop was WAY WAY WAY higher than the Saints running out of time inside the 20 with 3 TOs and under 2 mins on the click.
We were NOT going to run out of time. We didnt force Atl to use their TOs which they would have if he stayed in bounds.

We'll have to agree to disagree, but IMO, the defense not getting a stop bit us in the arse, not scoring too quickly.
