A cancer is a player getting too lackadaisical when he gets the big payday and not treating his body like it's his corporation. A cancer hangs out in shady places where a stabbing and murder of a pregnant woman go down. A cancer only produces his first 3 years in the league, then takes a few years off.

As posted in another thread, Grant could give guards & centers trouble because he's much quicker than the average DT. That would be a pretty nice DT rotation with Ellis/Clancy/Grant/Pressley. You could play him some snaps at DE if some guys go down.

Speaking of DE it should be interesting to see who wins the battle there during training camp for PT. Smith & McCray will probably be starters with Spicer/Hargrove/Charleston/Nincovich fighting for PT.

makes them lazy and not a good player, not a cancer.

TO treats his body like a temple and has a great work ethic he is still a cancer to every team he has been on.

not a good thing for grant to get stabbed and be there when this went down, but this had ZERO effect on the team.

Hell, let him gain another 15-20 and play DT to try and get something out of him...Ellis and Grant... may be a good combo?

Hellx2 let him gain 20-40 but let's add the desire to compete and dominate inside or out.

At first, I was all for Grant getting this extension, but if he keeps this up he needs to go. The man gets paid millions to stay in shape and play football. They aren't paying him to get like 4 sacks a season.

he was hurt last year. When healthy he is good for 8-9 sacks and stout against the run.

he plays at that weight for a reason. shite when we drafted him he nearly weighed that much.

02: 7
03: 10
04: 10.5
05: 2.5
06: 6
07: 2.5
08: 3

and only 2 of those years he played less than 16 games

theres no debate grant has been worthless lately

I tried looking up his weight when drafted, but I couldn't find it. This very well could be true though. If so, maybe we are being too critical. I still thinking weighing less than 300 lbs would do him some good. I know he needs strength, but in the NFL these days he needs speed at that position. Every one of the top 5 sack leaders weighed under 270. This might be because 4 out of 5 the played in a 3-4 defense. Jared Allen weighs the most at 270

and he is consistently among the leaders at DE in tackles. He is great in run support

and last year played with a bad ankle all year. He'll be ok.

How the frick are we going to run a 3-4 without a true nose tackle and only 1 good linebacker?

I don't think Meateye's point is without merit. Grant played DT (on passing 3rd downs) before and played it well.

He's always been under appreciated against the run and I think having a stout DE/DT isn't the worst thing in the world.

No question he hasn't been worth extension, and I'll admit that I was one of his most ardent supporters in 2006 when most Saints fans were saying that we should let him walk.

he was listed at 285. that fat mother hasn't been under 300 since he was drafted. he's looked more like a DT than a DE since the day he put on pads

I don't think either of them will be resigned, even if they both blow up this year or next year. Which they won't do both. Neither one has shown that he is capable of being consistently good.

In '06 he was valuable as a DT. I always thought he was more productive as a DT.

He's taken about a dozen snaps at DT almost all of which were this year when Gibbs would put McCray on the outside opposite Smith on 3rd down passing situations.
