Can't contain myself any longer. Saints built for a deep run into the postseason

The Saints were not far off from being a playoff team in 2016.
1. The defense wasn't good, but it was better, especially with the pass rush (100+ QB hits in 2016 compared to 64 in 2015). If the Saints would have converted 4 of those hits to sacks, which could easily be more of a coverage issue, they'd be 13th in the NFL in total sacks.
2. The Saints were decimated at corner. There is no reason to believe that PJ isn't a full go going into 2017. Lattimore, Breaux, Crawley, and Williams could easily be one of the better units in the league. Compare this to last years B.W. Webb and Sterling Moore unit.
3. They upgraded from literal dead weight (Kruger) at DE opposite of Cam with Okafor, a young DE who was 5th in pass rush efficiency in 2016 and already has an 8 sack season under his belt. In addition, we may be adding a healthy Kikaha as well. Anything out of rookie Trey Hendrickson will be an added bonus. The Saints were 19th in QB hurries while Rankins was out and 9th when Rankins returned. Cam, Fairley, Rankins, and Okafor should be a VERY respectable unit.
4. We are DEEP at LB and S. We had two starting caliber NFL linebackers on the roster last year. Now we have 4 (Klein, Ellerbe, Robertson, Anzalone). Stupar and Teo provide good depth.
The 3 safety set could be strong with Williams/Bell, Bush (upgrade over Byrd), and Vaccaro.
5. Our offense was the best it's been since 2013 scoring close to 30 ppg. The only weaknesses were Armstead being hurt every other week and the complete lack of a 3rd down pass catching back. With the addition of Kamara (stud) and Ramczyk, our last two holes on offense are filled.
6. Potentially dominant running game with Ingram, AD, and Kamara behind a top 3 Offensive line. Saints may finally be able to sustain long drives and keep the D off the field.
7. Special teams - Ted Ginn or Kamara will be running kicks back instead of Travaris Cadet. Will Lutz found his stride down the stretch and as long as he corrects his trajectory will be one of the better kickers in the NFL.
8. Overhauled coaching staff
9. At Quarterback from Purdue! Dreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
This is a superbowl caliber roster. I personally guarantee the Saints will make the playoffs. If they don't I will gladly accept a ban for the 2018 season.
Floor is 11-5 but I'm seeing 12-4 or 13-3

I can't say I disagree. I'm finding it really hard to be pessimistic about this season.

Season hasn't started yet and he's already 5th in efficiency. Talk about production!
Seriously though, I agree with your post.

I agree, and the coaching staff was purged, finally.

Wow actually a pretty good post, a tad bit of sunshine pumping in there, but I agree with everything for the most part.

Bottom line, we have to stay healthy. If we do that, or at least sustain minor injuries guys only miss little to no time for, then we are a playoff team.

We also replaced a stud deep threat with elite hands with a deep threat that drops a lot of passes.
Curious how our receivers adjust to tighter coverage without cooks.

Still think we will add a vet WR or a solid UDFA before Week 1

Perhaps Kamara streaking down the sideline on a wheel route and Ginn and Fleener shoving right up the defenses hash marks will relieve your doubts.

And this is literally the ONLY downgrade we had, but Ginn still produced his arse off despite Newton and the drops.
How many other team's can say the had literally just 1 downgrade? Or even just 2-3?
Hell we even upgraded our coaching staff.

What I really like about this team is the depth that we have on defense finally. By depth I mean someone who can step up and start if someone goes down without much of a dropoff. Especially at CB.

Exactly. And can you really say with 100% certainty that Cooks would have outproduced Ginn in Carolina the past 2 years?
Posted on 5/2/17 at 7:16 pm to breauxmosexual
Downvotes probably because no Analzone.
Posted on 5/2/17 at 7:18 pm to breauxmosexual
I think he would likely do so, yes, but mostly because Cooks has much better hands so he would have at least 5 more catches (usually the deep balls being dropped) for maybe about another 150 yards.
But Ginn definitely was no slouch and is clearly talented (minus the drops issue).

We also went 1-6 in games decided by one score or less, don't see that happening again.

3 blocked kicks returned away from 10-6
Posted on 5/2/17 at 7:20 pm to fightingtigers98
It's happened like 3 years in a row and we still finished 7-9 despite our close games record.

Great post...
I don't see a good reason they can't go 16-0
