I don't get how so many of you want this man gone. This guy has posted 10....I say again, 10 straight 40k passing yard seasons. He is by no means the problem. Can he give back some money to help the team, sure he can, but does he really have to?

You idiots want Drew and Sean gone so bad, where were you before they came along? I couldn't rven dream or even joke about a championship title before them. If it wasn't for the pathetic defenses that we have employed, Drew should have 2 titles (2011). You remember a certain #2 that used to smile after an int right?

You guys have become so spoiled with success. You guys suck off Belichek so much, they wanted his head early last year in NE. Their organization has been superb the last decade but come on. We have competed and it's mot like Sean has stayed status quo. He has made aggressive changes.

As far as Loomis is concerned, he is trash and should be fired. I think we are headed in the right direction with a younger D. I believe we are close, we played down to competition yhis year. We lost 4-6 winable games, remember that.

I don't think you're understanding where most fans are coming from.

It's not like we think Drew is the problem.

It's the team around him is a mess, he's carrying a huge cap figure next year on the last season of his contract, and he's really your only trade worthy asset for your rebuild.

Drew isn't going to survive the rebuild this team needs, nor does he deserve to be stuck here while we do it. Give him a chance elsewhere while he can still play at a high level.

If he'd quit his incessant knighting of the defense and shitting on the offense, I'd be fine with him sticking around.

I was going to say 400,000 passing yards is impressive.

He loses his trade worthiness at the end of the season IMO. Who is going to trade anything for a guy only under contract for a year. That means Brees can pretty much refuse to go anywhere by simply not negotiating a contract with the new team. I do not know many teams that would take the risk he would only be there one year unless they get him cheap.

Simply put he costs too much money and we don't have a competent enough FO to draft or sign low cost players that can be effective on our team. Even if we bring in a new FO, there is not enough tread on Brees tires to build a team around him. We need to start making moves for the future to put ourselves in serious contention 3-4 years down the road. Maybe it doesn't work out, but it's not going to work out with Brees making 28 million either.

Not really. He's shown he can still play, and the only types of teams that would trade for him would be teams like a Denver a couple of years ago, and if he refused to renegotiate, he'd be hurting his money long term.

Well the whole trade deadline thing

He's set to make $20 million next year. The signing bonus portion is a sunk cost either way.

Extend him. Finish fixing the oline and we'll compete for the playoffs next year

I know you really, really like Brees and probably wait outside the locker room hoping he drops one of his sweaty towels, but do you seriously think there are a ton of teams that will take the chance he will only be there one year?

There is this thing called the franchise tag, and they can negotiate an extension with him...

And yes, teams would take him for 1 year at $20 million too

Tell me more about how the salary cap works and how all our problems are Drew's fault

We won't have to find out because I think the Saints are stupid enough to leave his cap number at $30 million anyway.

Brees is paid what he's worth. Crappy QBs like Romo and Matt Ryan and Capernick make just as much if not more than Brees. He's getting his market value. Get over it!

The big contracts were moves we made to shoot for the moon two or three years ago. Byrd, Junior, Graham, etc. We started the rebuild already. This crappy season is a byproduct of that. Our picks aren't boom or bust guys like we had been drafting, but more solid picks thanks to Ireland. And we are going defense (Anthony, Kakaha) and running game (Peat- Ingram & Spiller contract).

I don't want to live through the Heath Shuler, Billy Jo Hobert, Billy Bob Hebert, Joe Tolliver era again. I'll take Drew and his contract every day. At least he gives us a chance to win. We just have to wait to clear some dead money and draft wisely.

It cracks me up after losses Brees is the one people pile on. I mean are those people just absolutely clueless?
We'd be maybe a 2 win team without Brees this year. Maybe.

I do not think he is every single problem but I sure do not understand how The Patriots managed to get an elite QB to agree to a contract where his cap number is never above $16,000,000 and that's in the last year of the contract and the Saints cannot do the same with their elite QB.

You don't understand how they extended Tom Brady extremely early or how his wife makes way more money than him?

Can you explain how the Broncos have so much talent yet have paid Manning more than Brees since 2012?

Clearly, Brees is hurting for money.

ETA: Mannings' cap hit is $17.5 million this year and $21.5 million next year vs. $23.8m and $30m

The point

Your head

And it's a business. He's now the 9th highest paid QB in the league. Cap and Tannehill have $19 million contracts
