All these threads about "Will Brees leave for a contender?" are kind of silly when the fact is the Saints were set to draft Mahomes with their 1st round pick.

Mahomes would have sat this year, and then given the start for the 2018 season. I don't see how anything will change as the Saints approach the draft next April. Either they will have sucked enough to acquire a top pick, or they will make a massive trade on draft day to move up to acquire their guy.

It's a forgone conclusion at this point that Brees will be gone after the season ends. The real question is will Sean Payton be here as well to handpick the new successor.

If Brees leaves and Payton stays I would be very intrigued with adding Bortles. I would love to see what Payton could do with Bortles. I think he's got a ton of potential and can be really really good

I could see us making a play for Bradford or Cousins (if he has a down year) and also drafting a QB in the first round.

Maybe even Bridgewater on a cheap deal if he's fully recovered.

Making a massive trade for your guy early in draft is fine. If Bree's goes, I would almost rather Payton stay because I think he could at least prep the new guy even if the rest of the team is just meh. Who knows maybe not having Brees as a crutch may light a fire under him like in the Panthers game where I though he did some of his best fishing in years.

I honestly think the real answer would be Garrapolo. Pats won't pay him 24 mil to sit behind Brady next year.

I don't agree with this.

Or this

But I do agree with this. I doubt we fork out money to Cousins and I think we just move up to draft Josh Allen.

are you serious????????

payton turned brees, a HOF QB, into a dumpster fire who can only manage to collect garbage time stats for setting records.

with payton's lack of coaching and total lack of giving the slightest frick because benson is a drooling idiot who has trouble remembering what day it is, lomis and payton are laughing while free riding on his bank account collecting millions for doing nothing and with no one to answer to.

payton couldn't do anything but ruin a good HOF QB so he sure couldn't make a bad one get better. had brees had a different head coach after the 2010 season to work with, then we may have seen him win 2 more super bowls but since he got lucky and took us to the super bowl, they gave him 8 more years of doing nothing wondering when the payton from 2006-2009 years might show up for work, but he never has.

maybe the rest of the league figured out his play calling style or maybe he just stopped caring enough to create new and different plays tailored to each team we face, who knows but whatever changed after 2009, payton hasn't coached a decent game since.

knowing just how little payton and loomis care, they might just sign manzel and kaepernick as our QB next year just to say to everyone

bullshite, show me all of these garbage stats.
Very few of Brees' stats are garbage time.
That lie is becoming annoying as hell.

If we finish anything less than 9-7, both Brees and Payton will not be back here next year. This should be simple to understand.

Wow this board can be crazy. It was one game guys. O line with one rookie and one second year guy and a center that basically didn't practice during the offseason. All against a top 5 D line. Our corners sucked, but they always do.

There's no good reason for the Saints or Brees to deal with the contract this year. I don't know if he will be back or not, but can we step away from the edge and stop the Bortles and Cousins talk?
