I hear ya but

it really doesn't matter what Loomis does at this point.

has he done anything to alter that line of thinking?

A Demps firing or even a Brees restructure would allow one to argue otherwise. But he hasnt done anything to garner a hat tip imo

maybe the non drew restructure will end up being beneficial in the future rather than pushing cap back.

No, not really. But I do like what he's done with the Saints the past two offseasons for the most part. I actually am a fan of this offseason.

Our offense was at its best with Colston, Devery, Meachem and Graham/Shockey. Our overall totals may have been good the last few years, but the offense wasn't near the elite level it once was.

You're leaving out one huge (probably the hugest) component here.

FWIW he says this stuff every offseason. This isn't just a fan trope- he definitely hates the Saints. He mentions us offhand very often when talking about what NOT to do.

This and he gets no credit for the Armstead deal, which was perfectly executed.

Yeah, because everyone knew Byrd's outcome in New Orleans at the time of his signing. Jesus, he was a top flight, pro bowl corner that was signed to be a dynamic game changer on D. When he signed here it was huge and not one fricking person thought it was a terrible signing. Now that he has not played up that contract and has been a huge disappointment, it is somehow the Saints fricking fault and they get pile driven for it? Man, come the frick on. You may have an argument on Gallette, but even then he got paid and then just self destructed. Still no fault of the Saints. But flame on.....

yeah, we missed the window where cap relief would be beneficial for the most part

I like the drafts. Looking big picture, some of the FA moves were ok but you gotta factor in the limitations were we working with based on the bad contracts of previous years. It's all cyclical

In the NFL, if the goal or vision is to compete for world championships, shrugging your shoulders and just saying, "oh well," to a staggeringly bad contract like Byrd's isn't something you can do if you want to achieve your goal or realize your vision.

OK funk then what should the Saints do right now instead?

The analysis was too skewed to the negative. And punishment for past cap sins were definitely part of Barnwell's equation for evaluating this offseason. That, of course, is weak sauce.

yeah, i mean you should say it was good for saints to go after Bell in the draft if you want to throw shite on the Byrd deal.

And you need to fricking get over it. We have had a changing of the guard the last two years, and are going in a positive direction. We all know about the shortcomings of the previous seasons. No quit dick riding Lester's ideals and form your own fricking opinions for once. Six or more years from now y'all will still ride the same regurgitated bullshite despite a posible half decade of sustained positive drafting/fa.

just shows how dumb you are to just realize it now. Despite all the curse words and names you called me when I was telling you all this years ago. No apologies, nothing. Go frick yourself, idiot

ETA: not that i want an apology, but you should be embarrassed for still trying to talk shite about this

You're right. Short of tarot cards and your gypsy aunt (by marriage), none of us knew how it'd work out.

Hmmm. I can tell there are some serious experts here on Saints Talk. LOL.

i agree totally on Norman. He wasn't worth that price. Neither was Byrd. The need to get him reeked of desperation. I'm hopeful the saints can be middle of the pack on defense. I doubt that will happen. It's a very young team.

There's definitely been a change of directions, it's too early to tell if it's positive or not.

You might have an argument about JL but what does Robertson have to with this? We badly needed another coverage LBer and he's very good at that.

The Brees situation is embarrassing.

What?

And you have to explore getting Norman when a player of his caliber is available.

Back to back 7-9 seasons and a Vegas win total of 7 wins after another offseason is going in a positive direction? You've now potentially wasted 3 seasons of a now 37 year old QB

Get to the playoffs then come tell me about trending upwards

"Sustained positive drafting"

Those guys have played 1 season and the current crop hasn't even gotten to minicamp. Im as optimistic about those guys are you are but they haven't done anything yet

And please don't curse at me

He assumes a difference maker FA edge rusher or corner was available for what we paid Fleener, but whatever. Everyone is entitled to their opinion... reality will play out on the field in about 4 months

How in the hell can anyone say this at this point? It's impossible to know this. Playing a veteran like Laurinaitis in the middle and giving up the flexibility to play Anthony on the outside could pay off big time!

Robertson if anything gives us a very good back up or 3rd down option on passing downs.
