IDK understand why the forearm would be listed as an injury concern. That seems like a freak accident that a player should be able to come back from with low probability of future issues.

Get in the Zone. Anal Zone.
Posted on 4/29/17 at 1:27 pm to BTRDD
Analzone will fill the tight gaps hard and fast. He will leave anyone in his way exhausted and sore when they think they can stop his defensive penetration.

I agree, and I think what was holding Lawson back was his height. The man can play football, shouldn't care about the size as much

Highwayyyyy to the anal zone

He filled the hole and stuffed the center and exploded in covering the tight end. lol

Lawson is 6'2" that's tall enough, I've seen shorter like Dwight Freeney play. But Lawson is a explosive player with a flurry of pass rush moves, but it's too late now.

Beckwith is a MLB.
We could use a MLB or any LB really.
I get not taking him because of Iniury concern but taking a guy who is cant make it trough a full season is insane.

Lol
Carl Lawson, the beast pass rusher, was on the board for another 40 picks despite being the 2nd or 3rd most valuable position in the NFL. Apparently the value wasn't there for all those other teams either
Hell, he lasted 10+ picks past our next 3rd round pick, Hendrickson.

He's a 2 down MLB most likely, which is still good, but I wouldn't call it a huge need for us with Klein and Robinson able to play that position

It's a boom/bust pick. The forearm injury is meaningless, the shoulder injuries are concerning. The only reason a guy like him drops with numbers is due to injury.
He's a much more valuable skillset in the NFL due to his athleticism and ability to not only cover, but go after the passer.
I hope we check that shoulder really well. We got to see a lot of him this offseason though

And so, what's your point??

Really need to explain?
That we passed on him to take Hendrickson later in the 3rd round, and almost every other team in the NFL passed on him, despite being at the most valuable defensive position, for another 40 picks.
Clearly great value at pick 76. That's why other teams jumped at the chance to grab him a whole 40 picks later
We could have traded a 3rd next year to grab Lawson too if we so desired.

Anzalone was graded higher than Beckwith by many.

I figured it would be something stupid like that. Listen, teams make dumb mistakes all the time, whatever their reasons for passing on him who the hell knows and cares. Might be some personality issues or some shite, but the guy was a force for Auburn in the always tough SEC and when he's tallying up sacks and being disruptive for who is it that drafted him, Cincy, I think. I'll laugh my arse off at how stupid they were for passing.

Certainly possible as I liked him too.
But your issue isn't with passing over him in the 70s, it should be with passing over him with the other 3rd round pick.
He clearly wasn't the top DE on not just our board, but other team's boards that early as he fell into the 4th.
Yea, being drafted 40 spots later clearly shows that the Saints FO was retarded for not grabbing him
He'll, why not take him in the 2nd or at 32?
Now personally, even with Hendrickson, I would have tried to jump back in with next year's 3rd to grab him when he fell to the 4th.
He's an injury risk too though....
Bottom line: After our first 3rd rounder, there were SIX other edge players taken before Lawson was picked. That includes that silly Bill Bellicheck taking Rivers over him (along with an OT) despite pass rusher being their biggest need.

How is he boom or bust?
He wasn't exactly the greatest player on earth when he was on the field.
And he was never on the field.

4.6 speed with good size that can outside. A 241 lb linebacker that has the ability to cover downfield while also being able to go after the passer
Top 5 in all athletic measurables for a LB

He was pretty damn good
quote:
Prior to his arm injury, Anzalone ranked second on the team in tackles (53) and statistically was one of the most productive linebackers in the SEC. He had 2.5 sacks through the first two games of 2016, registered a career-high 12 tackles at Tennessee and also made 8 tackles against Arkansas and Missouri.
Finished 3rd in tackles for a good Gators D despite playing in 8 games
He was also very impressive in his workouts as mentioned by multiple analysts.
The shoulders are concerning, but he had a full year without that issue presenting itself. The broken arm is meaningless and he's likely miss a few weeks tops with a fluke like that.

He had 53 tackles in 8 games
Beckwith had 91 in 10.
Beckwith had more career sacks had more career int.
I don't know how you evaluate a guy like Anzalone when he only played 8 games as a starter and half of them are vs teams like N. Texas and UMass.

Anzalone is a beast IF healthy. That's a pretty big if, but the the Saints staff is expecting him to be a Clay Matthews type LB.(create pressure on the QB) I've watched him play quite a bit and he's relentless.
IF he's healthy he'll be a fan favorite. But he could also live on IR
