Anyone else see any reason not to double dip on edges in the first two rounds?

The only DE we have worth a shite on the roster is cam. Kikaha is talented but his knees have to be a concern.

After those two, we have nothing. We have been bringing in alot of edge prospects that are graded as second rounders for private workouts, i think that signals our intentions of going edge in rounds 1 and 2.

How would you feel if instead of us going barnett at 11, we go McCaffrey/Trub/Watson/Howard/Reddick at 11, then at 32 get taco/tim williams/Mcdowell/Mckinnley, and at 42 snag Jordan Willis/Basham/rivers?

Not a bad idea. Might have to go with the top CB on the board at #11 in that scenario, though. All the 2nd tier CB's will probably be gone by our 3rd round pick.

Yeah

Our CBs are worse than our DEs

Personally, I wouldn't mind...

11 - Barnett
32 - Watt
42 - Conley, Tre White, Kevin King, or highest ranked CB on the board.

A pretty good CB should fall to #42. I have a feeling that a run on DE's will go from 33-41...just like last year's draft. Watt could also develop into a legit OLB for us as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at DE or OLB.

We really just need 1 more legit CB though. We probably aren't going to cut Breaux, PJ Williams, Sterling Moore, or Crawley. You also have Swann & DeVante Harris as options.

Getting 2 DE's could be very beneficial for next season & in the long run. We really need to hit on this position for next year...taking 2 only increases those odds.

I'm not saying that I want to take 2 DE's but DE is the only position that I would even consider double dipping in.

A reason not to take 2 DE's is that it prevents us from acquiring a RB, OT, LB, or Safety in the top 3 rounds. If our FO has a very high grade on both of the DE's...I wouldn't have a problem with it. Can't just take 2 DE's, just to take them though.

True, but even good corners struggle without a pass rush. A good pass rush can cover up for mediocre secondary players.

Our corners are fine the problem is the total lack of a pass rush. You can have the most talented DB's in the world and they will be hot garbage without a pass rush. But a great pass rush will make average to below average DB's look good. You can get by with bad DB's if your front seven is good.

I think you go for one in the 3rd, but we have more holes than just de that we double dip in top 2 rounds

I wouldn't be worried if pj Williams was healthy and played like how he did in 1.5 games over a season but that injury was scary.

Best DE at 11
Best DB at 32
DeMarcus Walker at 42

Not sure they make it that far, but I bet our FO would run to the podium for Tarell Basham or DeMarcus Walker at #76. I like Tanoh Kpassagnon(as far as value & potential) in the 3rd, but he looks like a huge project.

I think one guy to look at toward the end of the draft is a Samson Ebukam, an edge rusher from Eastern Washington. Dude ran a 4.45 at his pro day.

Cornerbacks or nothing without qb pressure, I think edge rushers are more important

I have zero issue with this. I really think Ryan Anderson from Alabama is a wild card in the second round.

Espn called they want their shitty, overused cliche back...

if you're a shitty CB, you can't cover anyone - it doesn't matter how much time a QB has or doesn't have

You are correct. It goes both ways as corner coverage helps a pass rush just as much as pressure helps out pass cover. You really need players that excel in both areas. If you're weak in one, it affects the other. Period.

I'm not against the idea of double dipping on edge rushers but i am against the idea if we're doing it in a way to ignore value to a large degree and drafting pretty much based on needs in each of these selections. I still want the best players possible. We have a lot of positions shored up short term, not necessarily long term.

Maybe, there are a ton of good CBs out there that will be available 2nd and 3rd round.
