I'm not worried, I'm pissed. It's crappy effort by the defense.
Yeah, this was sloppy as hell. The coaches will chew on some arse and fix this. I only watched the 1st half, but from what I saw they had someone failing his evaluation at safety and the whole team missed a ton of tackles. The Saints ran the ball very well and the defensive line didn't hold the point of attack, but they were getting penetration which was used against them, it's not like they were getting blown off the line, they just didn't look prepared to properly attack this offense. Either that or GW had the worst play calling game of his career. That is both unusual and fixable because one of his strengths while he's been with the Saints has been calling the right plays at the right times.
The good is new and the bad is very fixable. There is no need to panic yet, especially considering the Texans are a top 5 offense like the Saints.

You WANT games like this to happen in Week 2 of preseason.
Preseason is about not getting injured, evaluating individual talent, and experimenting.
Now they go look at the tape and see what failed. It's not like they were running fricking Zone Dogs out there. We play them in the season.
I would be surprised if we didn't bring Sharp in to backup MJ at this point though.

again, let me clarify, since evidently i was watching a great saints performance tonight, according to y'all... i do NOT think we are going to go 1-15... we will win more games than we will lose.... we may even make it to the playoffs again this season.... but from what i have seen, THUS FAR, from this team... we will NOT win the Super Bowl.... and that is all i give a shite about.... if you ain't finishing first, you might as well be finishing last.... we are past the point of just having "good" seasons.... we are past just "winning the first playoff game".... this team is put together for one singular purpose: to win the division, get homefield, and win the Super Bowl... anything outside of that is a failure.... period... you can have all the gaudy offensive and defensive stats, you can have the great record in the regular season.... frick that.... once more for the the Pacific Time Zoners, just so I don't have to say this shite again.... from my observation (and in case you can't comprehend, that's my OPINION) this team has some serious fundamental flaws and will NOT win the Super Bowl this season....

Chrxis, XRaytech, please go the frick away and never come back when we are winning in the regular season.
Maybe you guys have never seen preseason before. Maybe you don't know that preseason results historically mean absolutely nothing.
Smart football fans watch preseason and do two things: pray no one gets injured and look at individual talent. It's good for absolutely nothing else.

Amen...Fun Bunch. I would rather see this kind of lackluster performance this weekend than when the real bullets start flying in a couple of weeks.
Every team has some kind of weakness that will need working on this year. I imagine Greg Williams did NOT show everything in the toolbox last night. We will have cuts to make and will get Porter and Jenkins back in the mix when it all goes down in the Superdome.
If you watch the NFL Network, each week, the analysts have a different favorite in the NFC. One week, they can't get enough of Aaron Rodgers, the next week, Mike Vick is going to dominate while Matt Ryan and the Falcons are loaded for prime time. Even Dallas has some interest now that Garrett is the full time coach. I mean you can make an argument for and against each team listed. I think it will all come down to turnovers and injuries and playing consistently. Every team will lose games. No one is going without at least 3 losses this season. There is parity in the NFL.
Don't count the Saints out for one bad preseason game. Let the Texans feel overconfident when they visit the dome in week 3. It is all good.

We will win this game in the regular season I have no doubt. I just want no one to get injured in preseason games. I did think we looked like we were running at will on them. That first drive was pretty nice till the turnover.
No worries.
No worries.

Vanilla def and off + pre season game #2 = no worries.

Sproles was EVERY BIT as productive as Reggie tends to be last night.

"smart guy" preseason results mean nothing , but a Td from Brees and a starting reciever would be nice.

I bet the Lions fans in 2008 thought their team would be pretty decent after going 4-0 in preseason. Too bad they didn't win a game after that until the next season. To say that what you see in preseason has any long term effect on regular season is a little shortsighted.
Posted on 8/21/11 at 11:52 am to PatHealy
my only concern right now is the O-line. Primarily pass blocking. Our run game looked solid last night.

I'm not worried, but will become a little concerned if this type of play continues through the rest of the preseason, especially the 3rd game, since usually, the starters play much, if not all, of the first half.
I do realize it is JUST preseason, but the preseason can set the tone for the regular season. Last year we struggled during preseason, especially on offense, and some of that carried into the regular season. I feel like our performance during the 2009 preseason carried into the regular season and set the tone.
We did play very vanilla against the Texans, and for good reasons, since we face them in week 3 of the regular season. However, once has to assume that the Texans also played vanilla (maybe they didn't) and that is what concerns me. If it was two vanilla teams against each other, the Texans certainly looked like the better team. Did the Saints just take the night off?
I'm becoming a little concerned this will be another year of Brees under pressure, turnovers and a defense, that while is good, has inconsistant games, with an inability to stop the run, and at times, an inability to effectively stop the pass, like last night against the Texans or last year against the Seahawks, Browns, Cardinals, etc.
Again - it is JUST preseason, so I'm not worried, and will hope that last night will correct any of these issues before the regular season. I can't deny that I'm getting slightly concerned, but will not base anything off of just one preseason game.

You guys should not be worried at all. I'd still put you slightly better than the Falcons. There have been some discouraging things happening in preseason, but yet again, its preseason. Preseason games usually suck when you have known quantities. There is no reason to get your players hurt, so they play vanilla offense/defense. Chill the frick out.

the falcons havent looked too sharp either. wonder if their fans are going as ape shite as these clowns here.
Posted on 8/21/11 at 2:04 pm to BlacknGold
probably not, and nor should they be.... both the falcons and the bucs have a much longer window of opportunity to make a championship run....
as far as our window, i expect it be open for about 3-5 more seasons, realistically....
and this singular reason is why it's so concerning to not see any major progression from last season to now... our time is NOW! we cannot afford to fall short again this season, b/c that's one more season during our window that will have come and gone without achieving our ultimate goal....

Why? The core group of this team has already done/accomplished more for this organization/community than any Saints team in history.

Well they've already achieved it. I'd like to see them get at least one more, but I'm not going to say they can't do it because of one bad preseason game.

I have faith we make the Super Bowl this year. I did not say win it, but make it again.
