do you think the Saints are going to acquire him for a late round draft pick? We got a 3rd for Stills. What do you think this dude is going to demand? Plus he's in the final yr of his contract. He's going to demand huge dollars on his next contract. Can the Saints afford anymore big contracts right now with their salary cap situation?

Look, I would love to have this guy in a Saints uniform. It just makes no sense. Can't afford to pay him plus we need all the draft picks we can get.

Why trade picks for a rental?

He'll be an UFA next year.

No thanks, we need to lock up Armstead before we fool with anything else.

He is good, but do y'all want another guy who likes to stay injured?

I mean, all we have is Cooks lol. They will have to address WR in the off season, there is no guarantee we'd be able to get a receiver of the caliber elsewhere.

I'd gladly take a Jeffery/Cooks combo for Drew. Then they can draft a guard, defensive line, and other needs.

We got a 3rd for stills and took a contract. Not exactly the same thing. Believe stills still had some years left on his rookie year too

Well, I mean I'm not trying to be the Debbie downer, but it really feels like a bad move for a team that already has problems with big players being out.

You answered your own question.

They aren't going to be able to get much for him with him not being under contract. And, he's not going to agree to a contract without testing the market most likely.

This is not how you win Superbowls with overpaid players taking up 75% of your cap spread through a few guys. He will want too much. You draft and build a team like the Packers who have 35 players on their team that are drafted. Depth is just as important as starters. We suck at drafting and have no depth. You only sprinkle FAs in when your team is good enough at drafting holes which the Saints are not yet. Saints not in a position to get a guy like this and pay a huge contract. We need to do a lot of cap restructuring and I'm guessing it will take a few years with all the dead money that looks to be coming up.

What about call up buffalo and ask about Sammy Watkins. He has not done much and had some injuries. They only target him a few times a game. A true #1 with a good QB.

Seeing as we have not shown the ability to even draft 2 or 3 good players at a time, what else do you suggest we do?

I have alot more faith in this class but saying "We just have to pick the right guys" is not that simple.

Jeffrey is a far more polished product than we can find in the draft. Why not give up a pick for him? Highly doubt that happens but I'd love to get Bennett if they are just giving players away.

I would have agreed with you until they Cleaned house and had this past draft. I think they're in good hands moving forward

I agree mostly, but we lost two games by less than a td. So.etching tells me a healthy Jeffrey could boost our offensive production a td every other game.

I could see us trading for Bennett.

This is a good point. CHI is selling shop to rebuild for Fox's choice players, so it appears anyone and everyone are for sale. Bennett would be a huge get for us.

I think a trade for Bennett or Jeffery would be wise moves at the right price. Jeffery is complicated in that he is a free agent next season, but that doesn't mean he's not worth looking into. Our WR group is terrible, and he would be an instant, huge upgrade.

Due to his injury and FA status, I would not go any higher than a 4th conditional to a 3rd based on playing time. Then if he plays great for us, tag him next year and work out a long term contract.

Bennett is worth a 4th I would guess. He isn't a star TE, but he is very good.

Lot of time and variables left on this. Depends on if our receivers (Browner, really--and I don't know if he will) actually develop. If not, we need to get a receiver big time and take pressure off an otherwise talented Cooks.

Otherwise, I really like Bennett. He's good and has some years of experience on him with some years left. If we took him, we could pick up a receiver, guard, and d-lineman in the draft. I think management may have gotten their heads out the dirt draft-wise, judging from this past draft class. I love our linebackers, and I'm excited to see Peat.
