They've only got Treadwell going in the first round, but have 5 guys going in the top of the 2nd for WRs.

I hope that happens. Honestly, despite defensive woes, I still think WR is this team's biggest singular need. I can accept forgoing it in the first for a DL, considering how badly help is needed there, but if that happens we HAVE to go WR in the 2nd. Some of these talented guys like Doctson and Boyd falling to the 2nd would be nice.

Lots of talent at DL and OLB in the 2nd round so not a big deal.

I think we need to get 2 WR's in either the draft or free agency. Cooks is very good and Snead has been a pleasant surprise. But Colston is done and I'm not sold on Coleman. Maybe Coleman or the new guy TJ Graham would be ok as a 5th WR, but we need another starter and a guy from the later rounds like Jordan Payton from UCLA who is projected as a late 4th-early 5th rounder. I think he could play regularly for us like Snead has.

1:DLineman or OLB(or if a WR like laquon is here him)
2: WR(DE/OLB alternate)
3: guard
4: TE
5: secondary

That's the order I'd go with our first 5 picks

Does anyone think strief could fetch a 4th or maybe even a late 3rd?

IMO, we realistically need to approach it as a bridge year before one or two more title runs with Brees. Just too many needs.

I think we need to make defense our identity going forward. I think I've said this before on here, but I want to emulate Denver. Brees has about 2-3 years left, so build out an elite, hard-nosed defense that alleviates pressure on the offense to perform. This will also ease the transition for his successor. Under the auspices of our new DC, we need to be stacking the defense as much as possible and build on the handful of young talented players we have (and Jordan). We should start with the pass rush to mask Browner and Byrd.

That said, I could really see the merit in getting Treadwell. I think he would be an awesome get and having that bridge year to build rapport with Brees would be huge. But I think we save a pick like that for the following year, because having a very young defense trying to gel in a new system is a challenge.

If Brees were released I think that would give us about $10 million in dead money next year if I read the spotrac page correctly. I don't think we are that desperate to get rid of him. Walterfootball is cool I guess because he updates his site a lot so it gives you something to read, but he writes some really stupid shite.

For me the value of these mock drafts isn't who they have the Saints selecting. That's irrelevant since they aren't the ones making the actual selections. The true value is the data the sites provide. These guys have done a ton of work in getting a sense of the draft worthiness of each prospect. So while the average fan might know the names of the prospects in round 1, we might not know all of the prospects in the later rounds. That's what I look for in these mock drafts.

Mock drafts this early is just throwing shite at the wall. People love reading them so the they put them out for page clicks but there's not much substance in them. Hell, they've got Scooby Wright in the top 20 and he's undersized and has played 5 quarters all year.
Todd McShay put out the ESPN way too early mock after the draft and basically put a disclaimer on it saying this is stupid but people like reading it.
Sure enough in his top 10:
#1 Christian Hackenberg - sucks
#7 Cardale Jones - backup
#8 Duke Williams - ducking Laplace thugs full time

His is awful but the idea I proposed: WR then DE/OLB then G fills the really major holes. We can go all D after that.

The front office should just poll Saints Talk for picks. Our track record is a hell of a lot better than theirs.

This. I wanted Marcus Peters at 13, Malcolm Brown at 31 and Stephone Anthony at 44. Put me in there, guys, I got this.

really major holes.

have you seen our secondary? or our run defense, especially up the middle??

yes, we need a G.... yes, we need WR.... yes, we need a TE.... yes, we need a QB to groom...

but they are not near, not even close, to being as big a need as fixing the ENTIRE fricking defense... and with the amount of dead money on the books for next season, we HAVE to fix it through the draft... we can get a decent G for cheap in FA.... we have decent options that need to be coached up at WR.... and Watson is keeping the TE dept. afloat, though there's no guarantee for the long term there, i concede that point...

but our D.... man, it's all kinds of fricked up... i seriously would trade our entire defense (yes, Cam Jordan and all...) for Alabama's.... and that truly pains me to say as both an LSU and Saints diehard...

I'd be really happy with Ogbah out of OkSt. Not a great year for DL but I think he might be the best DE in the draft.

I'm perfectly okay with trading back and netting a 3rd (assuming we're early to mid teens again).

Got a lot of issues and the good pass rushers/DT will be gone by our pick imo
