I don't think its in our best interest to trade up. Never really pans out for us, Payton and Loomis has to know that.

Those options are me just going on what I have seen in the past couple of drafts.

Now hopefully if they have realized what a mistake it would be they would just play the chips how they fall.

I don't think trading back is an option, as it has never really been an option for the front office.

Reading Thompson's strengths vs. his weaknesses, his strengths are all super pluses (like super duper pluses) while he has two main concerns which are his size and tackling technique.

I think the size issue is more of a projection than what actually happened in most games, but I've seen some of the poor tackling technique. He does wrap up a lot too though.

Tackling can be refined and taught.

Yup. I'm not even worried about tackling though because he doesn't just go for the big hit (he actually wraps up more though not always with good technique) and like you said it can be taught.

Size is the ONLY real concern and I think he can be successful despite being light.

And I don't think the Saints are worried more about size than production. They were looking to draft Shazier last year so a light LB isn't off the board for them.

I was down on Shazier last year while you were pimping him up, and he played really well when healthy. I'm down on Shaq, so we should definitely draft him.

I am down for doubling up on ILBs early, though. Scherff, Kendricks, and Perryman is my ideal, semi-realistic first 3 picks.

1. 13: Scherff, Beasley, or Waynes. If you actually watch Shane Ray's gameplay he's really not that good. He's a one dimensional pass rusher who lacks the size to be a DE and doesnt have the horizontal speed to stop the run or short pass. I'd be very upset if we take him.

1. 31: Benadrick McKinney, Erick Kendricks, Stephone Anthony, Green-Beckham

2. 12: PJ Williams, Kevin Johnson or another physical corner

I think we take a solid Oline man in the 3rd round.

Yes I'm all for doubling, tripling, quadrupling, whatever it takes to improve the LBs. And I mean actual LBs with cover skills, not pass rush "LBs" though if we are taking three or four we can take one like that.

And we should absolutely draft a guard in the first three rounds. No more of this bullshite people say about finding gems at will because that is why the line has gone in the shitter.

Whatever combo of 2 cover LBs and a guard within the first three rounds I'm all for. The other pick take BPA at more needed positions depending on how FA goes.

We could use the depth in case of a junior injury too.

Still worried about our interior pressure too. Wonder what Wilfork is going for? I don't trust Jenkins yet

i think the question with WIlfork is, is he going to chase the money since he is getting up there, or does he truly want to win? We could def use him

Think we'll try to draft another tackle for depth in the later rounds.

We were pretty terrible when Armstead had to miss time.

Spot on.

Do you know anything about the guy Miami just cut? I had heard some good things about him in the past

Oh yeah definitely look for a LEFT tackle in the 4th or 5th. That was something I identified as a huge weak spot last year when doing the depth chart thread. Everyone but Armstead was a RT type.

But if we could find a mid to low tier guy in FA and pay him peanuts, as long as he is better than Harris I'd be cool. I'm really going with the hope Amrstead won't be hurt this year.

After this past season and this offseason, I question whether FA's think that this is a place to come to win. For an offensive player looking for a one year deal to improve their stock (Jordan Cameron, Spiller, maybe Britt even though he sort of proved himself last season), we make sense and can probably get a deal or two that way. But come here to win a championship? I think that we bounce back. We have after the last two disappointing seasons that we've had. But FA's probably won't agree.

1) Depends on who we pick up in F.A.

2) No fricking SJ-B prospects in the 1st 2 rounds. Everybody they take 13, 31, and 44 better goddamn be ready to start. frick whoever was responsible for Jean-Baptiste last year. We don't have time for that bullshite.

I wanted to come back and touch on Shazier. The reason I was so high on him was because of his tape. You watch it and you see a truly dynamic play maker.

All the measurable in the world don't matter if you can't play, and being light doesn't mean you can't play a position (within reason) and a 225lb LB isn't absurd.

Shazier was light but he was fast and had a nose for the ball as well as being very good at reading a play.

I see the same with Thompson. This guy makes plays. He has a nose for the ball and reads play very well. He also started as a nickel back before moving to LB and he thrived in that role, just as he did as a LB and as a HB. This kid is going to be special.

I still wanted Mosley over Shazier but Shazier was far and away my clear number two. No other LBs in the draft (that I checked in to, which was a lot) was worth a first rounder.
