I think we've got to go OT, CB, and a pass rusher with those first three picks

Payton never drafts a OL in 1st round.
He's been a coach for 9 years and has drafted only 5 different positions. You cant really say he never drafts an OL.

If Sean is still our coach for another 5 years whenever we eventually need to draft a QB, you cant say, "Oh Sean NEVER drafts a QB".

We need OL so why the hell wouldnt it be the 13th pick if the value is good.
I can almost guarantee you that we draft a guard or tackle with one of our first 3 picks.

Good point you got there. I could see us getting a OT at 13 if there isn't a top 10 pass rusher OLB available to us. I could see us drafting Stephone Anthony or Denzel Perryman at 31st. We are in NEED for a ILB.

CB or DL in 2nd Round. Definitely can see that happening.

To replace Strief (who has been excellent), Armstead (solid, young, tons of upside, and improving), or to sit on the bench?

I'd rather not go in that direction. His upside is high...but I'll pass.

I meant to put "OL", preferably an Guard.

did Shaq Thompson have an awful combine or something? His name was being thrown around on here for a minute but he must have laid an egg some where along the line since then.

Isn't Shaq now being projected a Safety after the combine?

Gotcha. A lot of people have said "OT" in this thread. I hope they're all making the same mistake. The Saints can't take an OT early unless they are almost certain that they can be a stud LT. We should target a capable backup tackle in the mid to late rounds, though.

He didn't. Had a decent combine. Just that the NFL scouts don't know where he will end up. Few says he should be at Safety. More says he should be at LB. Only 1 or 2 said he should a RB.

He's a tweener at LB/Safety role. But I believe he is best for 3-4 OLB, where he can cause havoc. I really want him at 13.

Agree with you Trillho, I think we are good at finding values in OL in the latter rounds. We need to use the first 3 picks to invest in the defense. STAT

Yeah, he's in a Thomas Davis situation, though Davis ended up being a great NFL LB when he wasn't injured.

maybe that is it. I didn't follow the combine like I have in other years.

13.) Pass Rusher/Offensive Guard
31.) Linebacker/Cornerback

2nd round: whatever we don't get with pick 31.

Outside option #1: (if Loomis goes against what he said about defensive help).

Trade 13 and 31 to get Kevin White or Amari Cooper.

Outside option #2: (if Loomis goes all out to get top defensive talent.)

Trade 13 and 31 to get top 6 draft pick to either select NT Danny Shelton or DE Dante Fowler.

I don't think its in our best interest to trade up. Never really pans out for us, Payton and Loomis has to know that.

Danny Shelton may fall in the middle range of 1st Round so no need to trade up to get him.

I think we have a good chance of getting Beasley or Dupree. But realistic side of me wants Shaq at 13. Either Perryman or Anthony at 31. Get a decent DT/CB at 2nd round. 3rd Round, get a Guard.

I've still extremely high on him. I'm one of those that uses the tape way more than the combine and he is very impressive on tape.

People were thinking he would run as high as a 4.35ish and he ran a 4.6 so a lot of people are dropping him down. Did I ever mention how much I love 40 times? (We hates them. We hates the 40s forever!).

Now I can understand if a big part of his game was speed and he ran a 5.0 and did poorly in the other speed tests, but he tested out pretty average for a LB.

The other issue is weight and again I think it is overblown. Sure you would like to see him heavier but they've had plenty of successful LBs in the low 230s.
