Posted on 7/6/16 at 3:51 pm
10. (TIE) DEVERY HENDERSON (2004): Probably the best #2 WR in Saints history. 124 career starts, 4,377 receiving yards, 21 total TDs.
10. (TIE) TRACY PORTER (2008): Responsible for the pick-six that sealed Super Bowl XLIV. One of the best players on the 2009 defense, but injuries have limited him to only 11 INTs.
9. ROMAN HARPER (2006): A popular punching bag in New Orleans for his inability to cover TEs in playoff games, but he has 136 career starts, 2 Super Bowl starts, and 2 Pro Bowls.
8. JOHN GILLIAM (1967): Returned a kick for a TD on the first play in Saints history. Also has over 7,000 receiving yards, mostly with the Cardinals and Vikings.
7. TONY GALBREATH (1976): Probably the best FB in Saints history and one of the best pass-receiving backs in Saints history. Over 4,000 rushing yards AND over 4,000 receiving yards.
6. DARREN HOWARD (2000): 10th all-time in sacks for the Saints. Had double-digit sacks in 2000 and 2004.
5. LeCHARLES BENTLEY (2002): Made 2 Pro Bowls in his 4 years with the Saints. One of the best interior O-linemen in the NFL before a freak injury after he signed with Cleveland (of course).
4. DERLAND MOORE (1973): One of the first defensive stars for the Saints. 146 career starts at DT. Made the Pro Bowl in 1983.
3. DAVE WAYMER (1980): Saints all-time INT leader with 37. 42nd all-time in NFL history with 48 career INTs. 131 career starts with the Saints, mostly at CB. Made the Pro Bowl in 1987.

Vince Buck should have made this list. he would have been one of the Saints best CB if not for the neck injury in Candlestick against 49er's.
Reggie Sutton would have been if he would have been able to get the monkey off his back and stayed away from Cocaine.
What about Brett Perriman? He was not so hot for the Saints but had a decent career in Detroit.

No ties make a decision.

Gilliam had more career yards I believe. I put Henderson at 10b even though he had fewer yards because all his yards came as a Saint.
You can make a case for Perriman, but he was such a disappointment as a Saint.
You're right about Buck and Sutton too.

He gets what I'm saying. He's not in the same zip code with Colston/Horn/Martin/etc.. However, he was the best complementary receiver long term that the Saints ever had. He fits with the Lance Moores, Willie Jacksons, Ike Harrises, etc., but I think he was better long term.

2. TRACY PORTER
There is no Super Bowl without Tracy Porter.
Dont forget the INT on Favre in NFCCG. We lose that game if not for Porter

Could you make a list of our best free agent acquisitions?
Posted on 7/7/16 at 9:22 am to Bert Macklin FBI
Drew Brees
/thread
Yeah, I will try to do that but it's harder. You have "traditional" free agents like Brees, UDFAs like Pierre Thomas, other teams' rejects like Lance Moore, and Plan B back in the day.

I would place Edelman or Korte ahead of Gilliam. Both were mainstays on the O-line throughout the 1980's. Very good consistent players.

Edelman and Korte were good players and were the next two on the list. Gilliam was definitely better when he left New Orleans and that's where most of his stats came from. It's hard to be objective with him because he had one of the 5 most 3 most famous plays in Saints history.
I could bump Gilliam from the list and not have a tie at 10, which would leave Edelman/Korte/Gilliam as the next ones in, but it's been up for a few days and I don't want to randomly revise it unless I totally forgot someone.
