I'd much rather watch the young and pesky Bucks who play great team basketball and are growing up nightly before your eyes than my own damn team who has the best or 2nd best player on the planet. We need a coaching and style change - we should be running and gunning and passing around Holiday, AD23, and Anderson. Basically fire Monty and hire George Karl and this team would be so much more fun.
But when your team makes moves and is now expected to reach the playoffs, the pressure is on and losses become frustrating.

The expectations were to improve from a 20-30 win team, to a playoff team in this conference. They've put themselves in position to do that.
Which is what he says. He also says there were other ways to achieve a .500 record without capping themselves out for years or being thin and unbalanced.. Which is true.
And he's right about the Evans/Lopez swap being questionable. They sent out a very good rim protector (anchors a league average and top 5 defense last year and this year) because he couldn't hard hedge. Spent a year in the wilderness at C, then sent out a 1st for a better, but not that much better, and more expensive rim protector. And the defense still sucks. That move has not aged well.

This team will be very likely to be well above .500 by the end of january.
Where does it say lopez is that highly regarded? Could you link?
I mean the blazers have Matthews/Batum/Aldridge(who's a very good post defender)
How much is it due to lopez or the talent around him?

Lowe watches every game. He comments on them nightly.
Yep. Actually, he may talk about the Pels more than any other team in the league. And he's not bias, he's always pretty objective. Truth hurts sometimes, though.

We could easily move pieces around and get real value in return, not just dump salary like Brooklyn. Gordon's the only "main" guy with no real value.
Anderson, Holiday, Tyreke, and Asik all have real value if they wanted to move them. With that in mind, I think Jrue's the only guy who'll more than likely be here long term.

That's fair. And I agree that it's not an unsalvageable cap sheet.
Yep. And I love Anderson. But they want Davis as a 4. Anderson doesn't fit here as a 5. I see a move this summer happening,

I agree.
Btw, I definitely agree that there's a lot to question about this front office and team. Don't want to come off too homerish. I just get tired of everything I read about this team from national guys being doom and gloom, and usually really condescending(not from Lowe).
We are over .500 in this insane conference, despite our faults. I'm sure if they tried hard enough they could find something positive to say about us.

Lowe knows more about the Pels then this whole board combined.
While I understand your point, I doubt that. He's an NBA junkie, but his word is not gold to me. He's a nitpicker and a lot of his writing targets fastidious inefficiencies. Like LeBron's Heat or any title team for that matter never had any weaknesses? No team's ever sustainably as perfect as Lowe wants them to be.

Such as Davis leading the league in PER, Value Added, and Estimated Wins Added... Or Luke Babbitt being a boss dog from downtown (currently 3rd in 3P% behind Korver and Rasual Butler)

When the Monroe to Portland rumors popped up there was a lot of support behind Ryno for Batum. There just aren't many viable targets.

Taken from the TWolves section of that article...
No one would have dared to say that same phrase about Austin Rivers in his rookie year, when he was the youngest player in the league. In the two Twolves games I've watched, Lavine looked really unready for the NBA and very much like our boy Rivers did as a rookie- inconsistent and unpredictable. Lowe's a spin doctor and it bums me out.

Zach LaVine has had bursts of exciting competence amid the troubles anyone would experience playing point guard at 19 on an awful team.

Lowe is more of an eternal optimist. He has trouble really ripping on people/teams. Haralabob was trashing Monty and Lowe was kind of standing up for him on a podcast earlier in the year.

Nylon Calculus Rim Protection Stats
I'm not saying Lopez is some defensive beast. But he's been very good at protecting the rim in Portland on 2 good defenses. That is important.
The Blazers have a good wing defender in Batum that NO doesn't, but Davis and Holiday are better than Aldridge and Matthews. I don't think their talent is that much better.
To me, Lopez's success is a damming indictment of Monty's scheme. Lopez looked like a clown often in NO. Not so much in Portland

If you have Asik, Davis and Holiday and your D is terrible, you're a bad defensive coach.

This. Sometimes it really is that simple. There's no excuse for us to be playing this poorly on defense.

I agree with this. Most of these guys have been in Monty's system for atleast 2 years now. there are still tons of blown rotations. After this long you have to put that on Monty.

We still have Ryan Anderson, who is as lost on defense as anyone in the league.
