What's your realistic best case scenario over the next 2 years?

How do the Pels get back on track to building a contender?

For me the short answer is get a starter out of this year's draft and target Hayward and Galinari in 2017 FA. You can actually sign Ryno for $16ish and only be an Ajinca dump away from having a young/1st max slot. This would be your top 10 players:

AD
Jrue
Hayward/Galo
2016 1st
Ryno
2017 1st
Qpon
Asik
Cunningham
BDJ

Yeah it'd be nice to add someone better, but I just don't see how you get there short of becoming a destination for a disgruntled star. And if that occurs, having guys like Jrue/Hayward/Ryno locked up gives you assets to trade for said disgruntled star.

There are many variations to this, like no Ryno, draft a center in 2016 to dump Asik/Ajinca/Cunningham and have enough money to add an old Max like CP3 and a young max like Hayward/Galo. But then you have 2 problems. How do you have a rebound season to attract these FAs without resigning Ryno or adding any long term money, and do you really want to commit something like 4/$130 to CPKnee?

At first glance it seems great, even if you have to use your 2017 pick to clear cap space, but you have no depth. It's basically what the Clippers have become, a good team that doesnt' have enough depth to go the distance and doesn't have the cap space or assets to add that depth. Not to mention CP3's health and age issues.

AD
CP3
Jrue
Hayward/Galo
2016 1st
QPon
BDJ

Can anyone else think of some good alternatives to what I've outlined?

I'm normally not big on coming up with all kind of crazy scenarios, but this offseason I'd like to see us do a few general things:

1.) Secure a top 5 pick. I think right now we have the 7th worst record.
2.) Clear cap space by letting Ryno and Gordon walk and trading Tyreke and Ajinca, preferably for picks/rookie contracts.
3.) Sign Harrison Barnes. Obviously this would be tough to do since he is a RFA. Back up plan is Nick Batum.

In this case, we finally get our SF and some youth and clear more money of the books for 2017 FA

1st scenario sounds pretty ideal. Getting a starter out of the 2016 pick is the big step.

I want to surround Jrue and AD with Shooters/perimeter defenders at the 2/3.

What happens to Reke in your scenario? Are you letting him walk next off-season, dumping him this off-season, or trading him mid next season?

I think this off-season will be huge for us going forward. What happens to Demps? Can we finally hit on a first round pick not named AD? Will the allure of playing next to AD finally attract a mid to top tier FA who fits a position of need?

I hope the answers to these questions are that Demps is shown the door, we draft a stud, and we sign that 2nd/3rd banana this off-season without drastically overpaying.

Ultimately letting him walk, if you do trade him it shouldn't be for anyone that impacts the 2017 cap.

That just isn't going to happen. First, there aren't that many 2nd/3rd banana candidates available this offseason, and the ones that are will be guys that get max offers from actual playoff teams. Sadly the Pels are a should be playoff team.

Yeah... I forgot you said realistic haha!

This is why it is even more important for us to hit on this year's draft pick. Maybe if this team can turn it around next year so we are at least heading in the right direction, we can lure a top FA in the 2017 Off-season? One can dream

No. It's so hard to predict what will happen this summer and the next one. It is unprecedented for everyone in the league.

I'm all for Hayward; not sure how realistic it is to snatch him, but Davis/Hayward/Holiday trio covers a lot of holes. They do need to move Ajinca or Asik. I'd much rather have taken a flier on Stokes (or someone similar) than have Ajinca locked up for 3 more years. Evans is also a big question mark.

You HAVE to hit on that draft pick and get back to the playoffs so you can sell him that he's a missing piece.

Yeah and getting that pick to be starter level on day 1 will be very hard.

We've been spoiled by how good these rookies are this year.

Draft Hield, Sign Ryno, Let Gordon walk and bring in someone decent for 8-10 mill or whatevers left.
If this core can stay together and actually play a full year or two without injuries they can easily be a 4-5 seed.

Okay, uh guys... I totally traded Ryan Anderson and our 1st round pick for 1st overall in NBA 2K. So clearly that's what should happen.

I posted this in another thread about this offseason.

I see the Pels drafting a PG (Jrue insurance) in the first, trading Evans to clear cap space, holding on to Ryno's Bird Rights, and making a run at Batum. If Ryno stays, we use the RE on a veteran Guard. If not, we use that cap space in a trade..

Washington loses out on Durant and they decide that Markieff Morris is not a fit for that team. Sign and trade Ryan. Milwaukee and Sacramento decide they need to join in on the trade because some faces need to be in new places. Maybe Milwaukee 2017 pick goes to Sacramento. LINK

Draft a solid starting contributor in Buddy Hield or Jamal Murray with the first round pick and a decent 7-10 points per game guy in Michael Gbinije. SF from Syracuse.

Quincy Pondexter comes back healthy.

Sign David Lee, Marreese Speights and Marvin Williams.

Find a trade for Asik ASAP or play him as little as possible.

PG: Holiday, Carter-Williams, Douglas, Cole
SG: Hield/Murray, Gee, BDJ
SF: Pondexter, Gbinije, Williams
PF: Davis, Lee, Speights
C: Monroe, Asik
