Imagine he never coached in Golden State and instead was an assistant with the Clippers this year instead. Would you still like the hire?

To those who like the hire, is the only reason because he was an assistant with Golden State for a year?

If so, do you think he all of a sudden figured out how to coach from that 1 year with the Warriors?

I'm curious as to what impact the year with the Warriors has on your opinion of him as a coach and if your opinion of him changed over the course of this season.

No, it's not a stupid thread.

My question is how much did his 1 year as an assistant at Golden State change your opinion of him?

Is he roughly the same coach now that he was a year ago? Or did he make a big transformation?

Some people have brought this up. It's an interesting question.

The guy was an outstanding assistant coach for the Clippera, too.

So would it have been a good hire a year ago if he went to be the head coach of the Pelicans instead of being an assistant with the Warriors?

Are you saying LAC (specifically offense) was bad last year?

Seriously? Are we going to do a what if thread? Just say what you want to say. Without this past year of experience with the Warriors you don't see this as a potential hire.

So so so many factors are taken into consideration but let's boil it down to one. Sound fun.

The man has coached the offense for 3 different top offensive teams in the league. Suns, Clips, Warriors. Obviously 3 is better than 2 so after his year with Golden State, the hire looks better. That doesn't discredit his impact there though.

Not sure what you're looking for.

Someone who thinks it is a good hire will need to answer that one.

No, not really. Non sequitur, actually.

Last season the Clippers were #1 in points scored, this season the Warriors were #1 in points scored...

Also, last season the Clippers were #1 in points per possession, this season the Warriors went from 12 to 2 in points per possession.

The guy is really good with offense, I'll make my decision on the hire when I see the rest of his staff.

No. I'm asking how much his 1 year stint as an assistant with the historically good Warriors has impacted the opinion of him as a head coach.

I asked you to imagine if he never coached with the Warriors this year, and stayed with the Clippers instead like last year and if you would have the same opinion of him as you do now after his year with the Warriors.

In short, how much has his stint with the Warriors impacted your opinion of him now as compared to your opinion of him a year ago?

I have no idea. Because it happened.

Okay, then, I'll answer. I think it would have been a bad hire then just like I think it is a bad hire now.

If the Pelicans hit or exceed 50 wins next year and make it to the second round, will you guys eat crow publicly? Or does Gentry have to win it all next year?

If they don't win 50 games next season, it's a failure
