Was this nightmare season worth it for Buddy?

Imagine an alternate universe in which the Pels were basically who we thought they would be prior to last season. They get the 6th or 7th seed and have a hard fought 1st round series they lose and end up with the 19th pick.

Now, come back to this universe. Was it worth it to get Buddy Hield?

Sure.

I always thought our ceiling was the second round anyways. This gives us a solid prospect with a solid ceiling on a rookie contract. Long term Im completely ok with it.

Then again I am probably in a really small minority that wouldn't be upset if we were in the mid lottery for next year in the much better, deeper draft. Then tried to strike in the better FA market next season. This team is still at least couple key pieces away from growing into a contender.

If it got Gentry and Demps canned + Buddy, then yes.

But for just one role player? No, no it was not

lol. No.

Should have had the nightmare season the year before and ended up w/ Winslow or Mudiay or Johnson or Turner or Lyles or Booker.

Then again, they traded that pick for Asik, so I guess they picked the right year after all.

If Hield does turn out to be a stud, is Dell gonna get any credit or is the narrative just gonna be that he made the no brainer pick and that he's still an idiot?

Who the frick knows he hasnt played. If we stayed on track and got the 5th-4th seed we would have been in serious contention for KD.

I don't know, I can't predict how people will react to something that may happen

The Asik/Ajinca double dip last summer is a stink that will be hard to purge.

You could argue (I wouldn't buy it) that up to that point, he was the victim of bad luck more than anything else.

Cant speak for anyone else but he already gained credibility in my eyes for choosing Hield over Murray.

Not trading the pick for Okafor or Monroe.

So yeah, if he pans out and becomes a stud, then I will give him a ton of credit for making the right pick.

No we wouldn't.

This was always a far fetched dream. Had we made a cinderella run and knocked the Thunder out then maybe it becomes more probable but still a long shot.

Would have been great if everyone stayed healthy and we made the playoffs. But its over and done with and I'm glad to have Hield on the roster. At the very least it helped us avoid sticking with the same roster, over paying Ryno in the offseason, and thinking "continuity" is still the answer.

So much if.

I mean seriously, how do you go from "we haven't seen this kid play, so we can't say how much he is worth" to something even more speculative ?

It's a question to spark discussion, not to be settled as a fact either way

These two moves after hiring Gentry are unforgivable.

Well no kidding. I'm just pointing out that you can't balk at speculation with more speculation
