We are seeing what we need to see. Analyze it, but don't freak out about it or get in cage matches over it.

2 games is too little to make a full judgement, but so far Monty is showing us that he's not the coach of the future. What makes someone a star player? Having a diverse enough game to where even when the defense takes their 2 favorite moves away they can still be effective. The same basic rule applies for coaches. The last 2 seasons Monty hasn't had enough pieces to see what he can do when some are taken away. That is not the case this season, and Anderson's injury is giving us an early test for Monty which is good, because honestly Anderson fixes a lot of the problems that Monty is having trouble figuring out.

Davis is playing like a superstar. Holiday was a one man gang in Philly last year, and Gordon is finally playing like we expected him too. That should be enough for a good coach to be competitive with a bad team on a good night. Maybe this is the game that forces Monty to figure a few things out, so like I said it's too early for a full judgement, but this is exactly what we want to have happen. This season is about figuring out who is worthy of being AD's sidekicks going forward. Making the playoffs would be nice but doesn't matter in the long run. Anthony Davis playing like a superstar is what matters, and since he is, every little thing is gonna be alright mon.

So far, unfortunately, that seems to be the case.

Yep. I'd like to win some games, though.

Is Evans still injured? He didn't seem really slowed down by the ankle but who knows.

I agree Monty has a unique skill set of players that he has to turn into a matchup issue for opposing teams. He needs to be creative and i am not sure if he is innovative enough to do it.

I also agree RA is our most important player right now ( not our best) bc he will force the other teams bigs out of the paint allowing EG, Evans, and JH to do what the do best and get to the basket.

I asked you this a while back. Do you think Monty still has the voice in the huddles/locker room? I know it was a discouraging night, but I thought I saw a lot of players tuning him out last night.

I think this was a bad game that on it's own is nothing, but has the potential to snow ball. The biggest problem I saw last night were guys attacking the paint with no plan B. Maybe Monty's assuming plan B is what Vasquez did, and heave up a shot at the rim, but Vasquez was pretty good at that side of the lane floater, and Holiday and Evans clearly aren't as comfortable with something like that. You ask guys to do things they can't handle enough and they will tune you out. One game isn't enough for that to happen though.

I think the main reason people are melting is because opening night we looked like we were going to beat the Pacers, a top tier team. Then we get shut down for the second half and follow it up with a loss to one of the league's worst teams.

It will take time to gel. I am a bit worried about Monty though.

Definitely starting to question Monty as the head guy now. I just scratch my head at some of the line ups and rotations that we use. We need to play to our strengths more and not just throw up a bunch of jumpers. We have a lot of great players that can drive the basket and create, yet we just pulled up for jumpers all night.

I doubt that. If they couldn't handle simple drive and dish, they wouldn't be in the league. Driving to the lane worked well against Indiana in the first half, Hibbert got in foul trouble, consequently we were up. We tried the same thing in the 3rd quarter, but Roy Hibbert got four block shots in that quarter alone. Pretty much forcing us to shot jumpers, that didn't fall.

I would assume that was the same strategy last night, without RA on the floor there is no Plan B, unless Morrow finds his shot. IMO this should be a perfect time to start giving AD some looks with his back to the basket. If he can get in scoring position, he'll draw the double. That would be plan A and let the weakness in the defense dictate what plan B, and C will be. This is what the Heat,Spurs, and the Nets do on Offense. I'm confident that AD can draw a double or least make the defense think about the middle of the floor. I think we'll see something like that from Monty, but that kind of ball movement takes time to implement and we're just two games in.

I had a similar post all typed up but you beat me to it.

It's time to sit back, be patient, enjoy ADs game, and hope the pieces fit.

Yeah that seems like a pretty solid strategy moving forward. Not having RA is definitely hurting, but Morrow seems to be doing well for what we brought him here for in his 3 point stroke.

I agree as well. Monty isn't going to get unlimited time to win with this roster. They are too talented and have no business losing to the Magic by 20

What would our record have to be for Demps to make a trade of some sort?

I think if we are 6-13 in December...there's a minor trade.

If we aren't .500 near the deadline, we are going to see major salary dump attempts.

what do you propose? EG? that's the only realistic one I see. we can't get rid of jrue, very early overreaction evaluation on reke is that he is not worth his contract, we ain't getting rid of AD. no one else would net us anything good. forgot about ryno. maybe him?

eta: just noticed you said minor. oh well

I don't remember if I said we would have a better record, I may have. I do not, however, believe that that is a "good way" to start the season, especially given our schedule.
