The pendulum has swung too far. Zion will play for the Pelicans again at some point.

Yes, most of the hate is deserved. Dude has handled all of this extremely poorly, and needs to grow up and take control of his health, career, and life. He needs to turn things around fairly drastically in a multitude of areas: his relationship with the franchise and fans, his overall conditioning and health, etc. We also do not know what is going with this guy. Does he really just not want to be here? Is it all being misinterpreted? Is he just a simpleton? A quiet guy that is down on himself because of the injuries?

But for a guy that has NOT requested a trade the hate pendulum has swung a little far.

He is going to play for the Pelicans again. It is in his best interest, the pelicans best interest, and the fans best interest that he play for us again, that he's healthy and in shape, and that he plays well. Now whether that's as a franchise long term player...or simply so we can up his trade value, we need him on the court and playing well.

There will come a point, either this season or next, where he is balling in a Pelicans uniform. We kinda have to get used to that idea. And that we will have to "cheer" for him even if its just hoping that its upping trade value. Personally I still hope it works out and he's a franchise player (although, obviously, I doubt it).

I like that he's being criticized and his feet held to the fire, but I do feel like as fans we have to remember that before things get completely out of hand.

Do you remember his face when we won the draft lottery? That’s what’s going on.

possibly, and I've brought that up.

I'm just trying to be a little more measured after a few days of being in our feelings.

The hate has gone a little far for a guy that is almost certainly going to be playing for the Pelicans again.

I do also realize that I am jinxing myself big time, after starting a thread yesterday trying to be somewhat measured the JJ news broke.

So now I know we are going to learn his foot fell off or he demanded a trade to the Lakers. But still, I persist.

The information void that he is choosing to create is what is allowing all of this negativity to grow like weeds.

To me the biggest problem is people are conflating "Not here because of injury" with "Doesn't want to be here." He was here and his rehab clearly wasn't going well because he seemed like he might be gaining weight rather than losing and he got very publicly roasted by HOFers over it. Retreating to a secluded and probably more effective rehab situation after that is not the same thing as he's ready to force his way to New York.

Agreed.

however, we were told 6 or so weeks after the shot we would hear something and its been absolute total radio silence, at the request of his people apparently.

Its now been 10 weeks.

Have SOME level of transparency. I think if there was some transparency instead of deafening silence, people would feel a lot better.

I think my honest expectation was he’d give us our 6 years and short of winning a title would move on. That’s the reality of being a Pelicans fan. CP3 and AD gave us that and I couldn’t begrudge them wanting to leave (AD poisoning the well excluded). For Zion to not even give the minimum effort AD gave with a way better roster in year 3 tells me what I need to know. I’ll root for his success to raise his trade value but I’m not rooting for him for any misguided hope it turns around.

Part of effective rehab sessions probably entails not missing them.

But he wanted to stay until Shinn did Shinn things. We had a legitimate shot at winning a title before that oakridge boys mother fricker traded Tyson chandler in a cost cutting move.

I'll add this to the pile of Fun Bunch's "I still believe in Zion" threads. We can all huddle around their warming glow when they're flaming up in the dumpster once he finally demands that trade.

Or we can hope Griff has some behind the scenes dealing going on. It's time to cut bait on this fricker. He's pulling this franchise down like lead shoes and we won't make the playoffs until he's finally on another team somewhere.

I tend to agree with the OP. However, I've given up hope that he's going to be our franchise cornerstone. At this point, my mission with Zion is for the fans and org to just continue to do the right things with him, even if his team doesn't reciprocate. We no longer give him any special consideration when considering how the team is built, but we keep him as part of the team until he's not.

We need to build him back up to what he was so we extract maximum value when we trade him. That's the mission now.

Let's see em.

Or do you not know how to read words?

Saying "the situation can be salvaged" or that he's going to play for us again if its just to get trade value so maybe we chill slightly

=/=

"I still believe in Zion" threads.

But judging from your post history, we know that measured takes and nuance aren't your thing.

And for the record, Zion can and probably will be a freaking great player again. It just might not be with us in the long term.

He hurt his foot. Last year he had a historically good season. He's 21.

We have seen this from other players that went on to be great. He needs to get his shite together, and it again, he may get it together elsewhere.

Zion's biggest issue in a way is that he was so dominant while being out of shape and not putting in the extra work that everyone else is. He was a top 10 player by eating whatever he wanted and just going on the court playing little to no defense. He's a kid, if he can get away with doing the bare minimum he'll do it. Hopefully this season has taught him all of what he's done (or hasn't done) has caught up to him in a major way.
And maybe that realization made him depressed to the point he needed to disengage from everything. I can understand that and if comes out saying something similar I think most reasonable fans would support him. The problem is nobody is saying anything from his camp and the void is being filled with unanswered questions and attacks. He, or someone close to him, needs to pull a media guy aside and tell the truth or this void will continue to grow with weeds.
To me, the answer is Antonio Daniels getting a sit down interview with the kid. Let Zion talk about this past 8 months or so. AD has a great relationship with these players, utilize it.
