That 4th quarter run was encouraging

Gordon had a steal that he turned into an easy layup, earlier in the game he turned a steal into a fast break dunk. Gordon also drove from the perimeter to the basket for an And 1.

Ryno had several athletic plays including a good block, some nice rebounds and a monster put back dunk.

If we're getting athleticism and hustle out those 2 then we should easily be better than last year's team once everyone is back.

I think one of the keys to this year is Jrue logging a ton of healthy meaningful minutes and playing up to his all star potential. His D is going to be key. No way you can give up 120 a game no matter how much you running the floor.

Didn't get to watch and I'm blacked out on League Pass for this one.

I'll probably check out NBA stas, but what were your thoughts on Davis on offense? Big box score, but how did it look to you?

There are positives to pull from that run. Its the best they've played all season. That awful missed out of bounds call on Teague really hurt. It was a stop that eventually turned into points for Atlanta, in the middle of our run when we had all the momentum.

With that said, we aren't going anywhere if we can't stop anybody. The defense was just as bad as its been all year.

The Pelicans played some hard ball last night, no way you guys should be 0-5...

I fast forwarded a lot through this one so I missed the 3rd where he supposedly went off. But he looked better in the post from what I saw. Had a nice turn around hook over Horford that I've wanted to become a go to move of his since he made one a few years ago.

The Davis numbers are legit. The second half was as well as he's ever played, offensively. I won't copy my post from the end of the game thread, but it way more detailed.

They were double and triple teaming him and he was still balling. They were fouling him hard and actually seemed to have the best game plan possible against him but when AD gets fired up and wants to eat then he's eatin'

Uncle Al touched on it postgame but they finally got Anthony Davis the ball on the move and in space. He had very good post ups but he got it before the Hawks could come over and triple team him. We're finally starting to use him correctly. If the offense moves like it did in the second half, AD is going to have several more 35+ point games this year.

Not sure why, but they laid off the double/triple teams in the second half and thats when Davis really went to work.

They couldn't even make an entry pass early on

This is what he was looking at in the 1st half. All 5 Hawks with at least a foot in the paint...

It was more a product of the Pelicans having AD on the move while he was catching the ball. The first half, we'd have him come down and post up and the Hawks would put 5 guys within a few feet of him. In the second half, he'd be on the move, catch an entry pass and go to work on 1 defender

It's much harder to double and triple team a player on the run

I know Gentry said that in post game, but it honestly just looked like he finally started getting some of the looks he's gotten the past few years.

In the second half(for the first time all season) he was able to catch the ball, turn and face, then make a move. He finally got some open midrange jumpers in the pick and pop. Got on the offensive glass, and ran in transition.

He's getting to the line A LOT this year, which is a great thing for when they fully figure out what they're doing offensively.

Yeah that's true but he wasn't able to get those looks before because he was getting bombarded by the defense. Korver wasn't even guarding Cunningham much of that first half because he was doubling Davis so much.

He got a lot of those same looks in the second half because he wasn't camped out for 5 seconds waiting for the entry pass. Our bad possessions came when Atlanta was able to deny the initial entry pass and Davis had to try to re work for position.

When Tyreke is in and if QPon shoots the 3 like last year they won't be able to double and triple team AD on every play. We could essentially have a two man game with Wolvereke and AD running the pick and roll with QPon, Gordon and Anderson camped out behind the 3 point line. There should be a ton of space.

There were times they wouldn't even bother giving a shite about our shooters when Ish Smith and Cunningham were paired together. As well as Ish has played distributing, he's essentially just Rondo-lite (good version not nutcase) on offense and nowhere near that on D.

Still missing a ton of easy looks.

The talent drop off is just so damn real. Seeing AD go ham last night on offense and have it not be enough just made it so obvious. You're seeing Asik, Evans, QPon, Cole, Perkins in fricking suits orbiting the team in timeouts. They're playing 10 feet off Ish to cheat on our real shooters or double Davis. PG is a HUGE problem right now. Im not sure what our record is with a PG that can halfway contain penetration and knock down wide open shots. Part of the problem is Holiday is playing like shite right now too most of the time. When him or Davis look capable we at least aren't a dumpster fire. At least Holiday is respected enough scorer they will let Davis go 1 on 1.

That drive Gordon had...holy shite. He made two moves there. That first explosive step then the quick head fake. The defenders both didn't stand a chance. They respect his 3 point shooting so I think he needs to do more of that drive and if necessary kick it out.

The Hawks didn't even jump out on smith. He was literally dribbling under the basket and they were letting him. The second time he reversed it in thankfully but the first time it resulted in nothing. They were letting him take open jumpers and 3s. That will keep happening until Cole/Evans comes back.

Also I'll never blame officiating for the outcome because we got some favorable calls (e.g., the no call on Davis against Tiago) but that behind the backboard missed call and the need to review that blocked shot that went out off the Hawks was awful.

Also sending our 6 players to start the 4th and then uncle Al getting a T probably was a killer.

Thanks for all the thoughts from everyone.

I watched the clips of Davis's FGA. Very limited look at what they were doing, but I would agree with this. One thing that stood out was much more off ball movement. Cross screens to get Davis in the post ISOed. Pin downs all over the place, etc. Much harder to double if guys are moving and setting screens. 7 shots at the rim is money for Davis, especially against a smart, tough frontline like the Hawks.

I've said this before, but that type of stuff is not unlike what D'Antoni ran for Amare in PHX. Get bodies moving, get the ball moving and cracks will appear in a defense.

Yup. Amazing stuff there to dig through.

They also are great w/ questions. I emailed about Date From/To filters before they put them in last year and actually got a response within a day.
