Asik is overrated. Yes, I said overrated. Moreover everyone knows the Rockets don't want him so is trade value gets lower on a daily basis.

We have this discussion every single week.

Asik is one of the premier defensive players in the league. Anderson is one of the premier 3pt shooting players in the league. Asik is limited, but fine on offense. Anderson is limited, but fine on defense.

The way the Pelicans are set up, Asik doesn't make a hole lot of sense to me unless Anderson/Davis just doesn't work defensively. Doesn't mean the Pelicans don't need an upgrade at C, because they do. But they don't need to move Anderson unless he can't play with the franchise player. And I still think the 3 is a bigger concern than the 5. Aminu hasn't been bad for me at all, but he's a small ball 4. A competent D and 3 SF- much easier to say than to find- would be perfect for this team.

As for this twist, why would the Rockets throw in Jones if they think he can hit 3s at a reasonable clip from the 4? If they are selling high, why are the Pelicans buying right now? The team has 3 games with Anderson. The results have been good. A little early to throw in the towel on this roster.

There isn't going to be an Anderson-Asik trade. Even if you value them as equal basketball players and equal fits, Anderson has the better contract. It doesn't balloon and you control him for longer.

Jones seems to be working out very well for them, and the Ryno/AD duo are +37 (141-104) in the 53 minutes that they've played together this season. Not that Jones was ever a likely part of the rumored Asik deal, but it makes sense for both teams to stay put right now (although that does lower Asik's value as time goes by).

Not looking to truncate the perfectly good thing right now for the Pels, just saying that "IF" the season takes a turn for the bleaker later on in the season and some seats get a little hotter, I would be ok in trading for Asik only if we could get Jones as well. Ask any Memphis fan, a great defense gets you pretty damn far, and adding Asik would lock up the Pels defensive deficiencies.

Well of course, but to me, Asik seems like he only does one thing and that's rebounds. His free throw shooting is horrendous and he's a liability in that aspect and I'm not sure if you can have him on the court because of that in close games coming down to the wire. Ryno to me seems like he's capable of doing a little bit of everything. Frankly, I wouldn't want to pay Asik so much money just to rebound, even though rebounding is very important and it can cost you games.
He's also good on defense.

Not only does he lock the rim down, but he plays good pick and roll D.

He's a good rebounder.

His FT shooting isn't that bad... especially when he gets in a rhythm. He's good enough at FT's to where "hack-a-Asik" doesn't really work.

By the way... if Jones can keep up his great play at the 4, playing how he was always capable of playing... then the Rockets shouldn't even go after a PF.

They should get a backup center, and a Luol Deng type player.

Yeah, sorry folks. I like Anderson but you overvalue the hell out of your players if you think he will fetch Jones AND Asik.

Which is just fine because I'd rather have Anderson on his current contract than those two.

On the Rockets would be scary.

Need a trade machine artist to figure out Gibson/Deng to Houston. Thinking 4 team mega deal

Why would Houston trade Terrence jones? He is their starter.

Well, he's the de facto starter. He was only starting because the Rockets didn't really have anybody else at the 4 spot.

Last year, the Rockets had several different players who would start at PF on any given night. Terrence Jones, Donatas Motiejunas, Greg Smith, and Thomas Robinson all started because they were all young and basically competing for the spot. Jones was in and out of the D-League, sometimes he would play for the Rockets, sometimes he wouldn't get any minutes, sometimes he would start, etc. McHale had him all over the place... same with the other 4's.

And he wasn't the starter to start this season. Dwight Howard was playing the 4 with Asik at the 5 for the first 8 games or so.

Playing both Howard and Asik together didn't work very well, so Jones was moved up to the starting line-up.

And he's been playing great. Jones was dominant in the D-League last year, and the summer league both last year and this year, and he played decently for the Rockets last year, although he made rookie mistakes and would play sloppy at times.

But so far this year, once he was given starters minutes, he's really been playing how people thought he was capable of playing.

We'll see if he can continue to play very solid basketball, but I wouldn't say he's a "starter" even though he's been starting the past 6 games.

He hasn't established himself as the starter yet at this point.
